What would you consider me, religion-wise?

What would you consider me? I used to go to church and I enjoyed it for the most part, but I find myself questioning the Bible more and more.

Here is what I do and do not believe in:

*I don't believe that just because someone isn't your religion that you can't marry them

*I don't believe that you have to go to church to be a member of that religion (many people say you're not a Christian if you don't go to church...which is another reason why I'm growing further away from Christianity)

*I believe in evolution

*I don't think that people who don't believe in the bible (or w/e) should just go to hell. That's not right, in my opinion.

*I don't believe the world is only 2,000 or so years old. I believe it's extremely old (4.6 billion)

*I don't believe in Adam & Eve (and I don't think I believe everything the Bible says, however, it does have many good teachings)

*I believe in tolerance among religions (coexisting)

*I don't think one religion is better than another

*I do think there is some kind of god

*I don't like people pushing their religion on me

*Most of all, I believe it's what you do that makes you a good person, not what you believe

I've seen a group on facebook saying "Anti-Athiest" which I completely don't like. I don't think anyone should "hate" someone else just because they have different views.

Sorry for all the stuff about Christianity. It's just the religion I know and hear the most about.

Would I just be a more open-minded Christian? Is there a word for what I am?

Update:

I've researched more and believe I would either be liberal christian, protestant christian, unitarian universalist, or humanist. I'm still searching though!

To answer your question, I have restated your points below so you can better follow my thoughts:

What would you consider me? I used to go to church and I enjoyed it for the most part, but I find myself questioning the Bible more and more.

This is healthy - let the bible answer the questions it raises for you.

*I don't believe that just because someone isn't your religion that you can't marry them. The biblical principal is that we should marry within our religion because having a common set of values will keep the marriage stronger. If one doesn't share the others values, the influence of the weaker spouse will slowly erode the values of the other spouse and this is contrary to the marriage ideal.

*I don't believe that you have to go to church to be a member of that religion (many people say you're not a Christian if you don't go to church...which is another reason why I'm growing further away from Christianity). We are commanded to assemble together as often as is practical in Hebrews 10:25 "... Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Given the constant pull of our human nature toward the things that satisfy the flesh, it very helpful for us to assemble together and we will be stronger if we do.

*I believe in evolution. Some of it may well be true. The Word of God contains all that is needful for our salvation - it isn't a history book. So if some sort of creation happened before it is simply irrelevant as far as the Bible is concerned.

*I don't think that people who don't believe in the bible (or w/e) should just go to hell. That's not right, in my opinion. The word "hell" in the bible comes from 2 Greek words (Gehenna and Hades) and the Hebrew word - Sheol. Gehenna was a garbage dump outside the walls of Jerusalem where refuse was burned as well as the bodies of those who couldn't afford a burial. Hades was simply a grave where dead bodies were put, and Sheol meant the same thing, but in Hebrew. So, going to hell is not a biblical teaching - its Catholic!

*I don't believe the world is only 2,000 or so years old. I believe it's extremely old (4.6 billion). See response above regarding evolution.

*I don't believe in Adam & Eve (and I don't think I believe everything the Bible says, however, it does have many good teachings). We must have faith in the the entirety of God's Word. There are many odd events, but then things are only "odd" to the extent we understand them.

*I believe in tolerance among religions (coexisting). This is humanistic. There is only one religion taught in the Bible

*I don't think one religion is better than another. If a religion is based on God's word, its doctrine will honor God. Sadly, most religions today honor a pope or some other figurehead when in fact the head of every religion should be Christ as taught in Colossians 2.

*I do think there is some kind of god. That's a start...

*I don't like people pushing their religion on me. Let the Word of God do the pushing and you will find the pressure to be equal to your level of interest.

*Most of all, I believe it's what you do that makes you a good person, not what you believe. The Bible teaches that we are saved by grace - there is nothing we can do to "earn" salvation. "Good works" are expected of everyone. If we could simply do something to earn salvation and then not be accountable for the rest of our lives, we would make a mockery of God. He requires all of our heart soul and mind in obedient service until the day of our death and the salvation decision takes place at the judgment when Christ returns to set up God's kingdom on earth. Deuteronomy 6:4-5

I've seen a group on facebook saying "Anti-Athiest" which I completely don't like. I don't think anyone should "hate" someone else just because they have different views. We all have different views from time to time. What I love most about our merciful God is that he is longsuffering - giving us every last opportunity to turn to Him and letting our last state be our epithet. Even a murderer can repent, be baptized and turn to God.

Sorry for all the stuff about Christianity. It's just the religion I know and hear the most about. There is much confusion over religion today because of how little we read God's Word. The perfect irony is that the world honors a wealthy dude who walks around with a weird hat, a robe and a scepter. Could anything be farther from Jesus Christ?

Would I just be a more open-minded Christian? Is there a word for what I am? You are simply asking the questions that everyone should ask. Keep it up, but remember to maintain a sincere reverence for Him - this will bring answers to you faster and more accurately than if you don't.

First you need to know what the word religion means. Religion is a group of people who take divine revelation, add in the customs, traditions, and laws of their time/place, and turn it into a set of rules and rituals.

If you don't know what religion you are, then you aren't part of any religion.

You've got it right though. Follow your God given logic and have a personal relationship with God.

I think you would find the urantia book's teachings very interesting. Check it out at www.urantiabook.org. There is a full version of it online that you can read for free. Good stuff. Although it is hard to read (i usually need a dictionary on hand when i read it lol). Your philosophy would probably agree with what it has to say. E-mail me if you want to know more.

I can see your point of view. Christains believe that you should go to Church if you are going to be in that religion because when you are saved there is a thirst in your soul to learn more and more.

If you believe in some teaching of the Bible, how is it that you can't believe in all of them?

Do you honestly believe that you came from a monkey?

Its not if you are a "good person" its much much more than that! I am going to compare this to a teachers grading scale. O.k? Teachers have grading scales so they can judge or grade each paper fairly and/or evenly. If the teacher didn't have a specific way to grade then everyone would think differently. She would just have to grade the papers judgeing by her opinion. It is the same way with who goes to heaven or hell. God can't simply say, if you are a good person you go to heaven. If you are not good, sorry, but you have to go to hell. That would not be fair, because everyone has different opinions!! Some people would think that they should get to go to heaven and not hell. So the grading scale for God is like this. If you are saved you spend eternity with God in heaven, if you are not saved you go to hell.

Being saved is basically believing in the God. Not just saying, yes i do believe that God exsits somewhere out their. You have to ask him to come into your heart and know that he is your Savior!

    The A B C's of Salvation

A- admitt that you are not perfect and you are a sinner

B- believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and he truly loves you, then ask him into your heart

C- comitt your life from now on to him, and work to join others with him too!

    In Christ.

A Christian is one who believes evey part of the bible and not just some. If you find yourself believing some part of the bible and not some, either you become an atheist, someone who is heading to destruction, or you ask God to strengthenn you.

It makes no sense to believe some and disbelieve some.

    Matthew 7:24

    New International Version (©1984)

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."

If you believe in Jesus, then yes, you are a Christian who ascribes to "liberal theology" as it has been called. Many Protestant Christians follow liberal theology, and the things you believe are definitely not that "far out" as far as Christian beliefs go. Many people have the wrong impression that all Christians are fundamentalists or evangelicals, but that's not really true. A large number of Christians are liberal in their theology and have no problem embracing ideas like evolution and religious pluralism (the co-existence of many religions) while disagreeing with ideas like young-earth creationism.

You are not wiser than God my dear . If you don't believe what the Bible says than that is not what you call a 'Christian' sorry to say !

You need to pray with a sincere heart and ask God to forgive you.

What is happening is satan putting doubts in your head which is making you sin . Yes no one is perfect, so turn back to God and forget about what YOU don't beleive in and just trust the Word of God with all your heart. God will forgive you if you ask him properly.

    God Bless

Its not about you. Its about God! Period! Doesn't matter what you believe, its what God says. If you don't want to inquire about it that does not mean he will change his plans for you. He gives each man a measure of faith. Its up to you to ignore it or allow God to strengthen it. You say you believe there is a God. Well why are you so afraid to inquire about him? You have to listen to others and study to find things out. Not wanting to listen to anybody is not helping you spiritually as God communicates through his people often.

To be a Christian you have to believe in the divinity of Jesus.

You state you believe in some kind of god, that makes you a theist of some sort.

The rest of the beliefs you state are applicable to any moderate or liberal religion.

You can not be an atheist and believe in some sort of god.

Unless you have a certain god you believe in, you sound like a generic theist on the sole fact that you say you believe in "some kind of god".

If I could, I'd just like to have you think about why you think there is some kind of god. Isn't it perfectly possible that everything just is, and that humans created stories about how the world came to be because they didn't understand it?
