Windows 7 - it can do what Vista does and more. Plus it uses less resources, performs faster and has many features that are not in Vista (ISO support, BluRay, jump lists, etc.)

Obviously Windows 7.
Brought my new HP tablet laptop 13 months ago and Vista is not one of Microsofts best OS. Its a resource and memory hog, and runs unnecessary processes in Task Manager, even when your computer is not being used, and is a perfect operating system for creating backdoor viruses, and Windows Vista doesn't even let you access some files. It also takes over 2 hours to do a harddrive test in BIOS compared to 53 minutes in XP. And it hasn't been very friendly on my HP tablet laptop brought new 13 months ago. Vista also makes my computer sometimes freeze for a few seconds, it takes at least 3 minutes to start up Vista, reach the log screen, and load all programs, and another 1 minute just to shut down.
No wonder so many people want to upgrade to Windows 7. But that in itself can be a hassle, and is not free. And getting a new computer you like is not cheap, and you dont get your money's worth for what capabilities computer manufacturers put in them - eg. Most new computers have low duo core processor speeds (anything above 3.0Ghz duo core speed is acceptable) and low memory capacity.

Hey Sean D;
Definitely windows 7, It has most of the features of Vista but way less of the security pop ups. It runs faster and is more robust than Vista (although Vista was the base platform for Win & from what I understand)
Have fun with the new OS!

I haven't tried either but my experiences of Vista (at work) are that it is resource hungry and bloated. 7 is cut-down and was rushed out by MS in response to the (very) negative response to Vista.
On my laptop though, I dont use Windows at all. For smaller powered machines, Linux is a better option, and I've been using Ubuntu for almost 2 years and would not go back to Windows. It's so much quicker and stable than Windows.

No doubt, Windows 7 consumes about half the resources of Win Vista, being more reliable and more driver support.. will allow you to fully experience the power of windows..

Windows 7 because its more dependable and better in every way (more efficent, takes up less space) and windows 7 has more features than vista
