My computers audio is choppy, laggy but only when?
a program starts and when I click the mouse on something to open it. I updated the audio device drivers, equalizer and all other sound 'enhancements' have been put back to default.

If you can afford to buy speakers for your computer that would definitely help. It worked for me! Good luck!
