I have a family member visiting this month who just found out that she has Genital warts?
What precautions do i take? I have read on the computer that you can get it if she touches anything after shes just touched herself there...like is it that contagious where i have to wipe down the toilet after everytime she uses it? I read that if she touches herself there and doesnt wash her hands and later on rubs her eye or something she can get it there??? Not sure if any of this is true... please help me out thanks for all of your input. I dont want to say anything to her to make her feel funny for when she comes here either.

In rare cases, the genital warts virus may be spread without direct sexual contact. It may be possible, for example, to pick up the virus if you use a warm wet towel to wipe your genitals after is has been used by someone who has HPV or genital warts. You should always only use your own towel at all times. However you can rest assured that genital warts cannot be caught from toilet seats or swimming pools and even the different type of wart which appears on your hand will not be passed on to your genital area.
Bear in mind that you come across people with genital warts every day... at work, clubs, crowds, parties, etc and because you don't know, you don't worry about it and have never caught anything. How many loos have you used in friends' homes which you don't think twice about ever having 'gw' and what about the rest who pass through that loo before it was cleaned and you used it. This is a family member who is suffering and vulnerable and I would treat her just the same as you would always... she will sense if you don't and it will effect her. You should have no fears and give her a huge hug when you see her and act as normal. She most probably needs it more than ever!

You do not need to do anything. If she visits, she should have her own towel if staying overnight that no one else uses. Other than that, no one should even know about this very personal issue.

It is spread through direct skin-to-skin contact during oral, genital, or anal sex with an infected partner.

.. Seriously? The only way you can get genital warts is through sexual intercourse, that includes oral.
