Smaller than a size 00 wedding dress?

I just got engaged on Christmas day and I'm starting to think about planning it. I started thinking about the dress and looking and it looks like the smallest I'm finding is size 2. I normally weigh 88 pounds. 5 ft tall, 30D, 22, 30. I'm smaller than a 00. If I buy one at a size 2 will they have trouble altering it that much? Would that get into the "custom dress" category and cost me a fortune? Does anyone know where they may sell wedding dresses already in a size 0?

Update:

Okaaaaay so yes, I have breast implants. I know a D sounds big but if you know how bra sizes work a 30D = 32C = 34B in the CUP. Up one, down the other. They're not crazy huge.

And I don't have a lot of money, we'll be paying for the wedding ourselves.

And thanks! I didn't know that women usually get wedding dresses a few sizes bigger. That makes me feel better.

And to the one to point out that I'm very underweight for my height, THANKS! You wouldn't say that to a fat person that's overweight would you? This is an issue I'm working on with my doc and it's not by choice and I can't have kids because of it, but thanks for reminding me!!! Think before you speak.

Update 2:

WOW. Sounds like Jen <Double N> is crazy jealous or something. Why come on here to attack me? Fat lately? If you had taken the time to read the whole thing you'd know that they AREN'T natural. And it's not that I don't have the money, it's that I'm trying to SAVE money since we're paying for this ourselves.

You would also know that it's not by choice that I'm this skinny. It's my Asian genes. I eat more than my fiance. There are days when I consume over 4,000 calories because I'm TRYING to gain weight.

Do me a favor and don't answer the question if you're just gonna channel your hate cause by your insecurity to an anonymous website so you feel better about yourself.

Sad world when people who don't know people attack each other for no reason.

Wow way to start off my wedding planning, which is supposed to be a joyous time.

I have gotten answers before where people just attack for no reason...very annoying, I know.

When I went dress shopping, I noticed that lots of dresses came in size 2, and was told that they can be taken in, no problem. Maybe look at styles with a tie up back, they can be altered fairly easily. I was even told that some dresses that have zippers, can be altered and have a tie up put in, but....that might get expensive.

I would go into a bridal shop and see what they suggest, they can let you know what styles are the best for alterations. And believe me when I say LISTEN to the sales people, they know their stuff! A girl in the store showed me a dress, I turned my nose up at it, lol....but she convinced me to try it on, and it turned out to be the one!! It's now in my closet :) On the hanger I hated it, thought it would look awful on me, but it looked beautiful. So try on all different styles, and ask lots of questions about the alterations, as it may be more to alter different styles, fabrics, that sort of thing.

Good luck to you!! (and congrats on your engagement!!)

EDIT - I forgot to add....my dress is 6, YES, 6 sizes bigger than my normal clothes. Crazy designer sizing, I don't know! I was on average a couple of sizes bigger in dresses, but this one, was SIX sizes. I still can't believe that myself!

You don't have to buy off the rack! When you buy a dress, the bridal boutique orders from the designer, and then you go there for alterations. The smallest is usually a 2, but it's not like they can't make a 0. Some designers will have 0s already.

Keep in mind also that wedding dresses run small. My measurements put my in a size 2 according to that designer's measurements, but it was a tight 2. I ordered a 4 just in case... the 4 fit without choking me to death. If you usually wear a 00, a 0 or a 2 will be a decent fit. You're going to have to get it altered no matter what. Besides, it's better to order a size bigger and have it tailored down if you're not sure what size will fit.

I seriously doubt you will be a 00. I am 90 lbs and a size 0-1 in jeans. I ordered a size 2 dress. They said I needed a 0, but most women need to get a size up or two in a wedding dress.

Most likely you will need a 0. They won't have many in stores to try on. The best bet is to try on a dress no larger than a 4. Or 6 if you are curious. The reason is because they will have to pull the dress back to make it fit, but it won't be the true appearance of how the dress is going to look in your size.

It's horrible, I know, but that's how the less expensive boutiques run.

You could always go couture if you have the money.

Oh! Just missed the part about your large breasts - which is weird that you are a D... are you a freak?? Sorry! Anyway, the dress is ordered to fit the largest part of your body, then the rest is taken it. Duh!

Likely the smallest size you'll find is a 0, but wedding dresses are usually cut tightly. You should go into a bridal shop and find something that you like in the size 0. Most bridal shops will do the alterations for 60-100 dollars.

I'm sorry that you're getting so much flack for being a small person. I got the same thing looking for a size 20 dress.

    Good luck!

Im 5-6" and weigh just over 100, so I would have been a size 0 however my dress only came in a 2 (the woman at the store said few dresses come in a 0 anymore). Funnily enough, that "2" was more like a 4 or 6! I had a lot of alterations done, and was amazed at the results. It can be done if you are willing to pay. Or you could look into having a dress custom-made. Lets face it, a lot of clothing suppliers are not very accommodating to smaller frames.

I wouldn't worry about the size too much because no matter what dress you order it almost never fits perfectly without some alteration. A size 2 in bridal is about a 0 in regular clothes so I wouldn't be too concerned. I'm sure you won't have a problem finding a beautiful dress that you love and that will fit you properly. Just remember to try everything on in the store! Since you are very petite, I would also ask about alteration costs and factor that in to the budget when looking at how much you want to spend. I'm sure you'll look gorgeous in whatever you choose. Congrats!

  • Hi There!

I have an online bridal shop. I sell dresses in a size 2 and larger. However, I can also make any dress to your specific measurements. You should have a seamstress measure you in order to get accurate measurements. You may need slight alteration after that, but it is unlikely if you get a corset back dress.

Also, you might want to look for dresses with a corset back. With your dimensions, a corset back dress will allow the dress to closely fit both your larger chest and smaller waist.

    Good Luck!

I am finding your proportions would make you very odd shaped so finding a dress to fit would be nearly impossible off the rack. You have the breast cup size of a normal person (kinda trying to figure out how do you get a D cup when you weight 90 pounds) but the dimensions of a child (not to mention you are very underweight for your height). I would start at a seamstress as she will have to adjust any dress you get. She may be able to point you in the right direction as far as fabric and embellishments. Usually size 2 dresses are more money anyway as it is a different dress design then the same dress in a larger size.
