I have a hp laptop -vista- can i upgrade to windows 7?

I am having a consistent issue with restoring my hp laptop to factory settings...I have made restore disks and they do work , however, the disks have become damaged and the laptop will not allow me to make an additional recovery disk copy. Hp has sent me a recovery disk but it NEVER works properly. My question is, can I buy a full version of windows 7 or an upgrade, and use this to set my computer back to an original installation? Or will the bios ALWAYS remember the windows vista installation?

BIOS is Basic Input Output System. It "remembers" nothing about your computer other than the basic motherboard I/O. That being said, upgrading from Vista to XP OR 7 is a good idea. If you have Vista, you'll be much happier with Windows 7.

not to set it up to its orgininal state but yes to indeed instatll Windows 7 u will have to find ALL THE DRIVERS for Windows 7 we found it has a very limited selection of drivers on the Win 7 dvd.

Still there are much more economical ways to restore computer to original state like copying partition on a 4,7 gig Fat32 partition

you cant upgrade vista home basic to 7.....download the recovery disk and burn it to a dvd with an image burning program, use it to re-install vista as new.

You really are not supposed to store any personal files on the recovery partition. I dont think there's any way to get your files back. Next time, use a flash drive, or external hard drive. Sorry about your files.

no Upgrading will wipe the disk and erase vista and all data off of the hard drive. go for it.
