Will non conduct soon be a crime? What does the Health Care term "individual mandate mean to the average ...?

The individual mandate would extend the dominion of the federal government to virtually all manner of human conduct - including the non-conduct of not buying health insurance - by establishing a federal police power that is authorized nowhere in the Constitution.
If the Health care bill passes and you stay home and ignore it, NOT purchasing health insurance, you will be labeled a criminal and will be subject to fines, arrest and imprisonment. This is truly breaking new ground in criminal law. This will be the first time in our history that it will be possible for an average person to become a criminal by doing nothing.
If this passes as it stands, Democrats will have legislated a new quasi-crime that cannot be committed but actually can only be non-committed.
Congress' attempt to punish a non-act that harms no one is an intolerable affront to the Constitution, liberty, and personal autonomy. That shameful fact cannot be altered by calling it health-care reform.
Grinnax,
Police give an order to disperse a crowd. That involves a potentialy harmful situation. That would probably be because they feel the crowd is getting out of hand and could become violent.
This is new legal ground because if I just want to stay home and live my life this new law says that is not allowed. Absolutely ridiculous. Thomas Jefferson is rolling over and beating on his coffin lid.

What this means is that we have a rouge government in place that cares not for the Constitution, nor the laws of the land. The government has it power to govern only due to the consent of the people. In the face of this draconian health care deform bill, we the people of this country should remove that consent. Otherwise, we are acquiescing to political slavery.

You have a great point.... if he gets away with this, the next thing you know, we will be prosecuted for any agenda the left would want to impose. I could envision this kind of tactic with being silent about homosexual hate crimes, refusing to accommodate guns control.... oh, the list could go on and on and on.
We know the forced buying of health care insurance would get to the Supreme Court, but we are no longer convinced that the Supreme court can uphold the laws of the land because of many of the judges' beliefs that the constitution is a "living" document & easily changed.

FAIL.
There are a lot of circumstances currently on the books as a crime where the person refuses to do something.
For example, a person can be arrested for refusing to disperse after being given a police order to do so, even during a totally legal gathering. In essence, the "government" gives an order for a person to do something, that person refuses, and the "government" can arrest that person.
Other examples are: a witness can be held in contempt of court, and arrested, if they refuse to testify in court. In certain circumstances, a journalist can be imprisoned if they refuse to reveal their source.
This is not "new legal ground".
Stop the fear-mongering.
EDIT: So you're ok with the government issuing an order to avert a "potentially harmful situation" that could involve danger to yourself and others, but you're not ok with the government issuing an order to avert a "potentially harmful situation" that could involve danger to yourself. Hmmm. If you want to "stay home and live your life", go for it. Just don't catch a cold or come down with cancer, or get in a car wreck on your way to the store. The simple fact of existence is that everybody will get sick at some point. Our bodies are designed to fail. Nobody stays 100% healthy forever. And that's the purpose of insurance; to pay the bills when something happens. Failure to buy your own insurance costs ME more money when YOU get sick, because someone has to pay for it!
