Buzzing/Beeping sound coming from laptop?
Hey, I bought an HP DV5-1235dx about 6 months ago, and it makes this weird beeping noise near the middle/top left area. The fan and RAM are in that area, I thought it was the HD but the noise isn't coming from that area. It has been doing it for a while now, it mainly does it when the computer is idling and it does it sometimes off and on.
To be more descriptive of the sound, it's like a off and on high pitched beeping sound, coming from the fan/RAM area. It really gets annoying...
Thanks.

There was a similar problem with the Apple Mac Laptop 7200rpm hard drive, so I think that it may be that, just make sure that you take it to the store where you bought it as they will be able to give you a report on what is actually happening, the laptop should have a guarantee so it should be no problem.

It would have helped if you indicated what Operating System you are using. I will assume VISTA and if so, go to Control Panel and select Device Manager (DM) from the list. Let DM develop its alphabetized list. Under 'Sound,Video and Game Controllers' you should see the name of your sound card. What you will be doing is checking to see if your card is "on" in software. This would affect both the speakers and the headphones as both get the sound from this card. Double-click that line and its 'Properties' window should come up. The initial tab is the 'General' one and it normally states that the device is working properly. If it isn't (and I suspect that in your case it is not) go to the tab marked 'Driver' . In the bottom half of the window that appears there should be five 'buttons'. You want to make sure the fourth from the top shows 'Disable' (which means your device is enabled). If it says 'Enable' then your card is disabled and you have to enable it by clicking that button. If this is your situation, then you may correctly wonder why the card was disabled when you didn't disable it. Great question, as I wondered that too when it happened to me. It seems to be a periodic quirk of VISTA for reasons I have yet to understand.
