Vista SP 1 froze on 2 out of 3 - is it corrupt?

I had to rebuild my computer yesterday. Installed using the factory CDs. Ran all the microsoft patches and finally got Vista SP1 to download and install. When I came in this morning (12 hours later). It was stuck on the boot up screen that said "Windows is updating 2 out of 3 items 0% complete.

I powered off the PC and booted back up. It appears service pack 1 IS installed. But I am worried it is corrupted.

Is there any way to check the validity of the install? What would you do at this point?

Windows update shows I can install service pack 2 now. Should I?

Thanks

Update:

Rebuild means I did have to take apart the PC and add new hardware. I did that and installed Vista from scratch.

If after installing Service Pack 1 for 12 hours it still says "Don't turn off the PC" when is it safe to?

    Sometimes it happens. But I've yet to have issues when I see it. Just go ahead and install SP2.

    Your POST is confusing..rebuilding your PC means mechanically taking it apart and putting it back together..

    ===

    If what you did was to Re-install the OS..then that is also called a Clean Re-Install of the OS..

    ===

    If your getting a Installation Screen--for Microsft Updates..declaring ...xxx-%...it should also say..Don't Turn OFF your PC..<<--which means-->>Don't turn Off the PC..

    ===

    Vista is a SP-1 Edition..

    How-ever..there is a SP-2 Update..once you've fully install the SP-1(version)..

    You move to the SP-2---Update---which is a good size file..about 45-minutes..even at DSL..//

    ===

    Doing a Clean Re-Install..of the OS..also means adding in your Drivers..as soon as your at your Desktop(OS..re-intall)Completed..next is Drivers..and you must install the Chipset Driver(first)..called the INF-File..

    ===

    The rest of the Driver's don't seem to have a special order..

    But once the Chipset INF-File is installed..it can be re-installed..so don't mess up on that operation..

    ===

    If you now have your OS...fully installed w/Drivers..

    Its time to add your MODEM..so you can use Microsoft Update..

    I add my ISP and DSL Modem...and then I register my Product w/Microsoft..

    ..then I go to UPDATE..usually--I shut OFF..Auto-Update..the computer should handle all of that..its best too stand-by so as::to READ any important messages during the Update Process..//[end]
