I know how to clean, but need more help ?

My black sweater is 100% acrylic,I know how to clean it ,but this will be the first time doing it. Directions say to :Block over a hanger by folding the garment in half lengthwise. Do not hang knitted sweaters on a hanger from the shoulders since this will cause stretching and hanger marks. What is meant by BLOCK ? thanks in advance.
