Want to go on vacation, but have a puppy. (Please read)?

As you read from the question, I have a puppy.

I got him around August and hes about 6 months old.

Hes a little troublemaker sometimes, but for the most part hes a good puppy.

My parents & I want to go on vacation this year, and we would need the trip booked around February/March (at the latest).

The only problem is the puppy. Since we'd go on vacation, we would need to leave him with my grandpa and he'd take care of him.

He is a good puppy but we don't want him causing problems while we're gone.

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions/opinions on what we should do to help him become a better puppy within 2 months ? It would mean a lot.

Thank you so much.

He is old enough for obedience classes. They usually last about 6 to 8 weeks.

I'm sure your Grandpa & the pup will do just fine. He will be out of the teething stage by then so that shouldn't be a problem, but you should still leave plenty for the pup to chew on & toys to play with. Make sure he is fully housebroke & make sure he is getting his proper amount of daily exercise.

If you have any major concerns, because you know your pup better than I, I would look into a boarding kennel. When we go out of town & the dogs cannot come, I leave them with my VET, it's affordable & I know they are safe & getting the best of care.

  • I don't think you can make a dog be better within two months. And if it were me I wouldn't want my grandpa to have to have that responsibility, it might just be too time consuming for him.

Try finding a boarding kennel for dogs. They're experienced with any and all dogs and you won't have to worry when you're gone.

    Good Luck!

in case you got the domestic dog from a fantastic breeder, she could be better than happy to maintain the domestic dog for yet another 3 weeks. If she does not agree, i could think again paying for the domestic dog from that breeder. the only different selection could be to intensively crate prepare the domestic dog for the two weeks which you have. you should make confident the domestic dog spends basically approximately all of his time in his crate till he feels risk-free and gentle in it. he will then spend maximum of his time in his crate once you're long previous with the petsitter or at a kennel or regardless of. edit: in case you instructed a fantastic breeder of your plan to pass on holiday after having the domestic dog for basically 2 weeks, she does not sell the domestic dog to you. a fantastic breeder needs the best for their puppies.

    Train him!

I have a dog named rowdy and well he was a MESS so what i did was give him two nick names one is baby boy rowdy and that's his good boy name but if he gets in trouble then his name is bowdy in a strin voice. When i trained him to sit and stay i would say. Bowdy sit stay stay..... and after about three minuets then i would say good baby boy rowdy and give him a treat and so if he needs to come to me all i have to say ia baby boy rowdy and now he is such a good dog!
