  • Ipad and audio books question.?

I have an Ipad. When I download audiobooks from my town's library, they don't go to my audiobooks section, they go to music instead and I have to start the book over each time. How do I move them (copying and pasting doesn't work) and how do I set it for future downloads?

  • Can I write off expenses on my taxes if I sit on a non-profit board?

I am the president of a non-profit "Friends of the Library" board, lately the other board members want to meet at a local restaurant to have the meetings over dinner. Can I write that off on my taxes? If so, how would I do it?

  • Alabama Employment Law: Is it legal for a employer to cut benfits offered in verbal contract?

I have been working for a private company in Alabama for ten years. They have never paid overtime, even though we are asked to work overtime on many occasions - we just get straight pay. What does state law say about this?

Now, in order to cut costs, they told us today that our two weeks of paid sick has been reduced to 40 hours. When I started work, I was told by both partners that I would get two weeks vacation and two weeks sick leave. Can they do this legally?

They've also made the decision to put all hourly employees, including myself, on salary. If asked to work overtime, are we due compensation of any kind?

  • I need advice regarding a federal student loan.?

A few years ago, my daughter asked me to co-sign for a student loan. At the time, I was married and had a two income household, so I co-signed. While she was in her first year of school, I left my husband and filed for divorce. I moved to another city and my financial status decreased. My daughter had some health problems and had to quit school. She could not work for a long time, so I contacted the agency and explained the circumstances and they put a deferment on the loan. A few months ago, they contacted me and said my deferment had ended and I needed to begin payments. I explained that I could not afford the payments and asked for another deferment. They refused and I got my first bill. I called again and asked if someone could assist me with lowering the payments or anything else. I was told that I needed to speak to the IRS. I didn't really understand what the IRS had do do with it, but I called them anyway. They told me that they didn't understand why I was calling them. I can't get anyone at the agency to help either and now I'm getting late pay notices. What can I do?

  • How can I save Yahoo email folders to hard drive?

Several months ago, my Yahoo account was hacked. Not only did I lose my emails, but I lost my folders as well. It took me actually looking up the number for the Yahoo CEO's office before I could get someone to get them back for me, because customer service kept telling me that it couldn't be done. I know for a fact that Yahoo backs up their stuff. Now I want to save all my folders to my external harddrive or cloud. Since there are hundreds of emails in each folder, I can't do the copy and paste thing.

  • Where is the safest place to keep my external hard drive.?

I have a 100 GB Ext HD that I carry back and forth to work with me - it has my music, pictures, etc on it. I have recently bought a good quality scanner and am going to go paperless at home - i.e. tax receipts, appliance manuals and even my recipes. I've got a 1 TB for this purpose - but my concern is this - my "life" will be on this thing. If my house burns down, I get robbed or a tornedo takes my house and dumps it in Oz, there goes my "life". I've got a fireproof safe - would it be okay in there?

  • What is the best software for organizing my box of recipes from magazines.?

I've got a large box of recipes that I've clipped from magazines, index cards from friends and relatives, recipes I've printed off the internet, etc. I want to get them organized so I can use them in my new gourmet kitchen. The software should be user friendly and able to index.

  • How would co-signing on a mortgage loan affect my loan?

I have been pre-approved for a home loan, but do not want to purchase yet since I'm only two years to retirement. My sister wants to buy now, but her credit was messed up due to her divorce three years ago. She has a great job and pays her bills and I was thinking of co-signing for her. Will this affect my pre-approval rating when I get ready to buy? I've been told that my rate has been locked in.

  • Does anyone have a way to organize all my car chargers, cables, etc.?

I have a Kindle, an IPod, a cell phone, a GPS, as well as a car charger for my laptop and bluetooth. In the front seat of my car is a jumble of cables and chargers and so when people ride with me, I dump everything in the backseat and it is a major headache. Does anyone have any ideas on organization? Someone suggested ziplock bags for each item, but when you are driving down the road, you aren't likely to return the item to the right bag. I was hoping someone might have an idea for a plastic bin or something.

  • What can I use to store my incense sticks?

I have a lot of different types/scents of incense sticks but the bags and cardboard containers are just a hassle to keep up with. What can I use to store them? I thought of the pretty wine gift boxes, but they are too short - my longest sticks are 17". Any suggestions?

  • Can anyone answer question about Alabama divorce laws?

September of 2008, I left an abusive alcoholic husband. I moved out of our family home because I knew he would not leave and I was afraid of him. I tried to get him to agree to a fair divorce without lawyers involvement because of the money, but he fought me at every turn. So, I finally I had a legal secretary, who was a friend of mine, draw up the divorce in June of 2009 (almost a year after I left him). I filed it, and they tried to serve him for 30 days. He was a police officer at one time, then worked as a legal investigator for a large law firm, now he calls himself a private investigator - so I knew he was avoiding service. I eventually had to threaten to have him served at his girlfriend's house. He went and picked up the papers. He refused to sign and waited until the deadline for a response to file his "answer". Basically, saying that since I left him, I get nothing.

I took out a loan and hired an attorney. She asked for discovery. He has just refused to answer it. We've filed a motion to compel. He has refused to do anything about it. He has told the court that he didn't have an attorney. So the court let him postpone it. Now, it is July, 2010 - he is still filing motions to have it postponed - this time his reason was that he "just now got an attorney". The hearing for the motions is at the end of July. Just for the motions. At this rate, I'll be using a walker before I can divorce this man. Is there anything I can do legally to speed this up. I cannot believe the judge would sign off on all these postponements, if he just looked at the file, he'd see that my "husband" knows just enough about the law to be dangerous and this is all bull. I've spent money I don't have on filing motions, attorney fees, filing fees, etc. I'm just tired. What can I do?

  • My 22 year old daughter was touch inappropriately when she was 14 by ex. Is there anything I can do?

I found out recently, with a lot of tears, that my 22 year old daughter was touched inappropriately by my soon to be ex-husband when she was 14. Are there any legal ramifications for him? She is now in the Air Force stationed in North Dakota, but the incident happened in Alabama where we both live. I believe her and she has talked to her JAG office, but I'm afraid that because we are in the middle of a divorce that the judge may think this is revenge.

  • What type of fabric would you use to make a broomstick skirt?

I love wearing these skirts to work, especially in the summer months. I do not sew, but a friend said she would make them for me if I bought the material. I just don't know what kind to get that will crinkle after washing and twisting up.

  • I want to find a website that shows galleries of hairstyles.?

I have searched, but most are these outlandish styles that look good in salon shows, but not on real people. I'd like to find one that you can kind of plug in length, texture, etc.

I've got a long layered style now and want to go just a tiny bit shorter with fringe in lieu of bangs. Something that is easy to take care of on work days, but one that I can straighten or curl for evenings and special events.

  • What could cause months of gagging (retching) at different times of the day, but mainly in the a.m.?

This has been going on for months now. I'm due for my annual physical next week, and plan to discuss this with my doctor, but am concerned now because for the last two days I've had chest pains radiating to my jaw area. I have not any other symptoms for a heart attack, so don't belittle me for not going to the ER. I am also getting about 3 to 4 hours of sleep per night as I have chronic insomnia. Because I'm going through a long and nasty divorce - I attributed the insomnia to stress, but the gagging and chest pain worry me.

  • What to feed an underweight ferret?

Our shelter just rescued three ferrets, they are all underweight having been fed rabbit food by their uneducated owners. I know they are carnivores and I have purchased ferret food from Petco, but want to know what I can use to put weight on them fast and safe.
