Where is the cheapest place to buy pre-cut fabric squares for quilting?
I just bought a sewing machine and want to learn to machine quilt. Is there a discount online store that sells inexpensive fabrics or pre-cut squares? I've check Joann's and Hancock - they seem very pricy.

Online may not be the least expensive, but this vendor has the best prices for quilting cotton - http://www.connectingthreads.com/fabrics/quilting_...
JoAnn and Hancock do not carry the same quality fabric for quilting.
Pre-cut fabrics will always cost more than by the yard.
Example: Fat Quarter is a popular cut. It measures 44" x 18" (one yard of fabric is equally divided across and lengthwise). If you buy 4 FQ at $1.00 that would equal fabric costing $4.00 per yard.
You can purchase fabric by the fraction of a yard (36") for less money.
Cotton is usually 44"- 45" wide. The selvage edges are trimmed away and not used. This reduces the width by 1" - 1 1/4".
Alex Anderson's quilting book for beginners would be an excellant purchase before you buy any fabric. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?rlz=1T4TSHB...

I would agree with the suggestion for Thousands of Bolts. I send for fabrics from there, and I'm all the way over in the UK. Pre-cut squares are desperately expensive compared with yardage.

I would recommend www.Fabric.com -- They have quality fabrics, great service and super sales. The carry many of the Moda Fabric squares (charm packs) and even the strips (jelly rolls). You can get many free patterns for quilts and projects from the Moda Bake Shop easily made by beginners and advanced sewers.
Good luck and have fun. I just started quilting myself and it is addictive.

Does it have to be online? I like to shop the remnant bin and clearance rack at my local JoAnn's.
Good fabric for quilting *is* going to be pricy, but you can sometimes find good sales and other deals on the online quilt shops. The shipping can sometimes offset the savings, though.
I haven't used this one yet:
