Do you take responsibility for your life?
Someone asked a question earlier about ethics and atheists.
I am not of the opinion that just because someone is an atheist that he or she lacks morals. Many atheists have strong moral and ethical principles that they live by. But I used to believe that atheists lacked morals, because God is one of the reasons why I have certain moral standards. It is curious to me...do some Christians believe that atheists lack morals because God happens to be the sole reason for their sense of morality?
I saw a question earlier that inspired me to ask my own. Here it is:- please see Neo Draven's answer-
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhW9x...
Neo said that he takes responsibility for his own life, and doesn't blame anything on God/gods. Do you suppose that Neo thinks that God sends people to hell...(victim mentality)...or do you suppose that he thinks that people choose where they end up when they die?
It's human nature to avoid blame. We don't want to be blamed for things that happen to us. We have a penchant for pointing our finger at others when things go wrong. "It's not my fault. It's someone else's. My parents made me this way. I have had bad things happen to me." Maybe I am being too harsh here about responsibility. Taking the blame goes against our instinct of self preservation, perhaps. But in order to not have a victim mentality, do people realize and acknowledge that they are 100% responsible for what they do, and where they end up after this life is no more?

Yes, I do. I agree with Neo's answer 100%. I interpret his answer to mean that he DOESN'T think God sends people to hell, and yes, that people choose where they end up when they die. If they sit around and blame everything or everyone else for where they ended up, THAT is a victim mentality.

Yes. I used to blame God for my problems and ask him for help, after receiving no help I realized that God does not help us or answer prayers. So now I am responsible for everything and if something goes wrong, oh well.

i'm an atheist, i 100% have morals. i DO NOT drink, smoke, do drugs, or have promiscuous sex. i guess you could call me "straight edge" but i don't claim it. you don't need god to have respect for yourself and the well being of your life. i take care of myself, as i have already stated. there's no need to be so judgmental, i don't go around flaunting that i don't believe in god, that's my opinion and i keep it to myself. people who do that i think are extremely rude and need to be open to beliefs that people have. i respect that people go to church, believe in god, all religions. i just don't do that. i do my own thing, keep me out of it. just because someone isn't religious, does not mean they're not a good person. i went to a baptist pre-school, there was god in my life, it's just one of those things that aren't for me.
many christians do not take me seriously at all, i've lost friends because of this, even my dad for a while. this is my choice, i take responsibility for everything i do in life.
sorry this was long -_- lol

sometimes, other times no
im just human, not perfect
i will alway shave an instict for self preservation which means placing blame other places instead of myself
i havent a clue what he things to be honest ss

as you say, its human nature, wow, i used the same words as you did (i hadnt read that far when i wrote the first part, i read and write as i go,) but that tells me that we not onyl are on the same wavelength about that, but it has soem ring of truth to it

The purity of our conscience will send us to Heaven. A pure conscience will pass through the works of the blacksmith without pain. Remember in Isaiah when God talks of the blacksmith and fire He created? Yes, God created Satan to test all people. In His new age, He'll no longer need His left-hand-tool, so He'll throw it back into the lake of magma from which it was made. There's no need to dramatize it and create a 'war-in-Heaven' story out of it.

Listen up real good friend:
ATHEIST, get this now, They are the SAME as anyone else, same thoughts going through their heads going through yours , mines and everyone else.
They have a BELIEF or BELIEFS that may or may not necessarily be true and so does everyone else.
I have a few that are the best friends I would ever want to have.
Most have come to the light that this RELIGION thing is all a fake and they are hard core against it and they just can't come to grips how so many of you could be so foolish to be controlled by this crap which is really very weak and easy to pick apart.
Most will not admit they do BELIEVE in a greater force ( Which would be God or a God ) just as many of you will deny certain trues about you.
Where as the real problem lies: They have not seen convincing evidence and by now their mind set is that it doesn't exist.
So, even if it shows up, it's hard to break the previous chain of thought and yet today, what is needed to break the chain, hasn't come from religions.............
God is not a religion but this is what he is attached to because religion is the practice of a belief in a God.
Therefore, since Religion has fail to produce the necessary trues regarding God, they have no other choice but to deny this belief.

God is the one that chooses to send people to Hell... He doesn't have to send good people (i'll talk about later) to Hell. Neo WOULD be the victim.
Let's say we find out that Islam is true. Did you choose Hell when you chose not obey the Koran, dear Savage? You should own up to responsibility and take your punishment of eternal torture like a man, ite? This is how Neo feels about Christianity most probably, you see?
But people aren't 100% responsible for where they end up, silly Savage.
If someone is born into an non-christian environment, chances are they're going to be non-Christian when they're adult. Would you choose something you were raised as the truth or Christianity... which you must admit would seem totally ridiculous to someone who's only seriously considered atheist beliefs before. You "could" have been born in a non-christian environment yourself.
Alllllllso, put simplistically, everything that we do is simply a reaction to something else (even typos). If one thinks for example that one's happiness is worth the pain and suffering of others... something had to make one feel that way. What if nothing comes along to change their minds about it?
This is why I think very few people are bad. if any. At least not ones that can deserve an eternity in Hell for 1 life's actions.
What's up with all the questions about death lately, anyway?
And btw, just because you don't like what someone does, doesn't mean it's immoral. I'm probably very immoral to you, if you should get to know me... is this why we need a bible? A 1 size doesn't fit all list of rules, of which some are argued to be outdated and figurative, while others send people to eternal torture?
