As I remember they started adding iodine to salt to keep it from clumping. Have you seen older people putting rice in with their salt? This was to absorb moisture and keep the salt dry. If it gets moist it would clump and would not come out of the shaker holes. The picture on the morton's salt container depicts an example. It has a girl out in the rain spilling the salt. Before iodized salt salt would not come out on rainy days because of all the humidity in the air. That was where the rice came in. Some people still put rice in their salt just out of habit but if you buy iodized salt it is not necessary.

Iodine is an added chemical to salt which is necessary for the thyroid gland to work properly but it's a difficult element to get in our diet without it being added to something. It has no taste and is necessary for good health so go for the iodized especially if you're female.

a little potassium iodide is added to the formula, It is very very tiny., like 0,01 percent. Some proponents of organic nutrition believe that regular sea salt also contains a tiny fraction of iodine as well, and recommend use of sea salt instead of the sore bought iodized salt which has been sprayed with potassium iodide.

It is up to you to decide what you will feed you family but it is important to have iodine in the diet. I prevents mental retardation

Iodized salt is fortified with the very essential mineral iodine

Non-Iodized one does not contain iodine.
