Move downloaded steam game files from one computer to another?

I have been playing steam games on my desktop for awhile and recently got a laptop. I don't want to wait hours for every game to download onto my laptop, is there any way to move the files from my desktop to my laptop via cd or flash drive? Running Windows 7 Home Premium

In Steam there is a option to back-up your games. Click "File" from the top menu, and select "Backup Games". Mark the games you want to back up and select the folder for the backups. Install steam on your laptop, sign in with the account that you purchased the games, and then transfer the backup folder to the laptop and run the backup program. That is all.

I believe you can use a flash drive. Most pc games (like TF2) should have a save folder somewhere in your My Documents or computer.
