For a physics project i'm using calorimetry to determine the specific heats of liquids and various solids, and when calibrating things i'm getting numbers that don't make sense. I'm using a 3/4 inch hex bolt of an unknown metal as the temperature changing agent, and i'm getting its temperature by dunking it in boiling water for about thirty seconds, then plopping it in a half cup of water in a styrofoam cup. I measured the specific heat of the nut and got 127, close to lead which seems reasonable, but then I used that value to get the specific heat of water and got 3000. Maybe my cheap thermometer fails? I just need to know if there are mistakes i'm already making, and any pitfalls that are common in calorimetry.

I tried using Q=ncp(deltaT) and got 11640 for the heat added

S=Q(1/Tc-1/Th) and got 2.4455, but the answer range is 5-8.

What am I doing wrong!!!

So there's this girl, woman, female (whatever) who I've known for awhile and always had a crush on but we've never really gone anywhere. Recently, I've hung out with her into the hours of the night, generally talking and catching up (100% kosher). I currently am really diggin this girl. It's impossible to fully describe, but I'll say she's really pretty and challenges me intellectually/mentally---pretty much the ultimate brain-scrambling combo XD Dunno if that adds to the equation at all but it seems relevant enough to me . Back to the point of this question. One night I was hanging out with her seeing her pet duck (yeah, she's just awesome like that), and I looked over at her and I swear I saw another girl's face, one whom I've never had any romantic connection to. And in an instant, it was gone and back to her original face. It really bugged me out but I didn't mention it at the time. It kept happening again and again, and thus far I think I've seen upwards of ten different women in her face at different times, none of whom I'd seen that day or was thinking about. I've turned up NO results with the blanket google search, and am preemptively coining the term "polymorphic face" for the phenomenon.

And for the record, I'm not taking any hallucinogenic drugs nor do I have a history of hallucination.

I've tried this one a lot but I can't calculate the normal force. Without the normal force i can't find the total friction and thereby cannot find the force f. Help?

My laptop GPU recently died, but the other components are working. I am buying a desktop with a much larger hard drive, and I want to transfer the contents of my laptop hard drive (programs and all) onto it. I'm selling the laptop hard drive in about 9 days (eBay) so i need to clone it quickly and fully, as I put a lot of work into installing various programs and a ton of games. Any help appreciated!

I bought my Asus G1S used off of eBay last Christmas from a reputable source and it has worked great. It has added ram and I upgraded it from vista*32 to 7*64 I've used a cooling pad for it to help with temperature, and as of this morning it was working. I then decided to take it mobile and after walking from class to class (college) with the laptop in sleep (screen closed) the computer will now boot with a black screen. Absolutely blank, but hard drive activity and even the ability to log in (memorized keystrokes). I've surfed the forums and apparently it's a problem with the NVidia 8600m. So I have multiple problems here. It's definitely out of warranty and from what I've read Asus won't help me at all unless I cash out, something I'm not comfortable doing considering I bought the thing for much less than retail (back in the day). Please tell me I'm wrong and that Asus will be wonderful and help me out...If so, how can I contact them quickly and efficiently?

I have a big research paper due tomorrow and I NEED the information from the hard drive. Is there any way I could just implant it into another computer temporarily or somehow get the information off?

Lastly, are there any possibilities for self-repair? I'm no computer engineer but i'm fairly confident with my techno-knowledge to take myself (with proper instruction) through a repair process.

Say you have two masses attached by a massless spring over a massless frictionless pulley. One is hanging and the other one is held on the table by the force of friction. The friction force is equal to the mass of the hanging block times gravity right? And it's represented by (hanging mass known as m) -mg because the friction force is opposite the motion? Or would the force of gravity be negative and friction positive?

Also, if you suddenly took all the friction away so the table mass started moving, would tension increase, decrease, or stay the same?

I am preparing for a physics exam and I don't recall these particulars.

Imagine a block being pushed up a slope at constant acceleration. There is a force pushing on it horizontally which accordingly has components in the y and x axis. There is friction on the slope, dependent on the normal force. This is where the paradox comes in. If the friction is dependent on the normal force, then while you push, you effectively increase the normal force and thereby increase the friction, increasing the force necessary to maintain constant acceleration and increasing the friction and force on to infinity. Someone point out my bad logic please.

I have been playing steam games on my desktop for awhile and recently got a laptop. I don't want to wait hours for every game to download onto my laptop, is there any way to move the files from my desktop to my laptop via cd or flash drive? Running Windows 7 Home Premium

I am a 17 year old boy, 5'10, 160 pounds, in good shape. I swim and play rugby so I consistently exercise, but I am not as flexible as I would like. First of all, how can I increase flexibility to the point of being able to do the splits and have good range of motion? Secondly, would it be detrimental for my performance in athletics? I am willing to work hard.

I am thinking about hosting a screening of "Nerdcore Rising", and I need to know what the content is. It isn't rated... Is there much swearing? Any nudity? Violence? I know this may sound absurd but I need a good idea of how explicit it is so I can better plan my screening. Any insight is appreciated.

I am supposed to go in to my gym to get my body fat percentage measured via skin calipers, but i am going in at 5 pm. I would really like to work out that morning as it is part of my schedule, but i think (have heard) that it would adversely affect the results and make the measurement inaccurate. I have had a runny nose, sore throat, and mucus in my chest and throat for a couple of weeks now, but just recently when i cough i get a yeasty taste in my mouth and upon coughing up this mucus it tastes like yeast. This has never happened to me before, it is gross and i am curious what it is.

Ok so i get internet through a local service provider via a modem which then goes through a wired router ( dynex DX-E402 ) through an ethernet cable to my computer, am running AVG 8.0 with gaming mode enabled.... and windows 64 bit vista, yet i cannot host games. I have no problems joining but i need to be able to host for an enjoyable time. THANKS

Ok well my ipod touch is jailbroken with ZiPhone ( the best ) and it has worked great for a month installing things with the installer app no problems, then just recent;y i installed a large group of sources from Shai's Apps and it took forever to refresh, then told me i had a bunch of stuff to update, so i clicked update and the screen froZE SO i force restarted it and when it finished and went back to the home screen installer said no more updates so i clicked on it and got a white screen for about 5 seconds and then it reverted to the home screen. Every other Application seems to be working, but the installer application wont open, and gives me a white screen when i click on it, only to be followed by the home screen as if i had clicked the home button. Help would be extremely appreciated, thanks.

My flash drive is a kingston 512 and it says it doesn't have the right performance characteristics to work. How can i use it for readyboost?

A friend of mine completed one of those internet advertisements, and it cost him around $200. Upon completion, they shipped him an Xbox 360. It came with no controllers or cords, and when they got the cords new, it wouldn't even work. I have seen advertisements where the promotions that you havr to complete are things that i have wanted ex. Blockbuster Stuff, Magazines, Blenders ETC. What should i do. Should i take the risk or buy one new?

My phone has a simple 250 text/pix/flix messages a month, but i have been texting loads more than that, but only to verizon customers who also have a texting plan. Hopefully i can, otherwise i am out like $50. Ouch. HELP ME
