How can i make it to where my step-dad is my legal guardian? aka adopts me?

I'm about to be 18 in 8 months and i want to petition for my step-father to have the legal rights of being my father. i live in ohio, so i think that will make a difference, but i have no idea what i'm supposed to do to get the process started or anything like that. i don't want to do it until i turn 18 because i know my dad will try to stop me. My step-father has been more of a dad to me than my father every will be. i want to legally be called my step-fathers daughter.

how nice of you to do that. i am not certain that once you are past the age of majority that you even can be adopted. if that is possible you would have to contact an attorney who would draw up the adoption papers and file them with the appropriate court. sadly it isn't something you can do on your own or with a legal aid. if it isn't legally possible, then you draw up a legal looking adoption paper that names your stepdad as your real dad, sign it, and give it to him (your stepdad). then all you have to do is file for a legal name change, change your last name to his, and you are good to go.

It will probably take 8 months to go through all of the court proceedings and then it will be moot. First your birth father has to give up his parental rights and your mother and step father have to take him to court for that Then after the waiting period set by the court your step father will have to petition the court to adopt you,

As a step-father myself I try to permit my step-son the capacity to converse along with his father who has only in the near past rehabilitated from drug abuse, time in prison, and a myriad of alternative disorders. Because the childs father is establishing to behave like a father...and he has ultimately began offering efficient understanding and steering to his son...it is first-rate...however the step-father is STILL a authorized parent!
