Straw cups!
They're great - my daughter loves them.
There are some that are spill proof, and also some that aren't.
Look in the bottle/cup section at the store and see what they have.
And remember, some stores have things that aren't at other stores, so you might have to shop around.

I switched to mostly cups with straws around 2 years old. My favorite is "take and toss"...They are a sturdy plastic, but not really thick, with a tight fitting lid. My kids do not like the rigid straw that comes with them, so I just use disposable drinking straws with them. This way you can toss the cup and lid in the dishwasher, and the straw in the trash. If the kid leaves it somewhere it is not a big deal since you are out a whole 75 cents ( about $3.50 for a pack of 4). My older kids ( 13, and 9) just started to use a regular open cup recently ( they are pretty clumsy)

Just regular plastic cups that wont break. Good luck!
P.S. I would stick to a sippy cup for car rides. I even used them as way to teach my kids not to spill their drinks. At 5 and 6 they would use a sippy if they spilled on purpose from goofing around. This worked well because they didn't want to be treated like a baby.
Mmmmm... thumbs down...really? You don't need to buy expensive special cups just get plastic cups that wont break. As far as the other thing I mention that's for later when you want to discourage bad behavior. Plus I wasn't talking about if they spilled their drink by accident but only if they were on purpose and goofing around. My kids only needed one day of having to use sippy's in front of others and they never spilled again on purpose so it dose work. After all I'll soon have 4 kids and think I know a thing or two about this.

if its a long car ride, you should stick with a sippy cup so it doesnt spill in your car. otherwise the next step after a sippy cup is a regular open cup. you could also use a sports bottle or something like that, or they have sippy cups with straws...but it's still a sippy cup basically.

Sports bottles and cups with straws work wonders. Especially since they make some just for kids so that they are spill proof too. They're not sippy cups, but they wont spill.

Check out these cups by Playtex...My kids use them in the car, they are two and six. We bought ours at Target.
For older kids who are “too cool” for a sippy cup, the Coolster® Tumbler is the next best thing!
This no-spout spill-proof cup has an easy grip shape and looks like mom and dad’s coffee cup, so a child feels more grown up. The Coolster® Tumbler is also insulated to keep liquids cool and fresh twice as long as ordinary spill-proof cups, and its sweat-proof design helps protect furniture from moisture....

my son started drinking from a straw at 10 months. He never used a sippy cup. that would be the best idea they have the cups with lids & straws & you can put a cap on the straw.

cups with straws!
they sell a five pack of these at walmart in the baby section, where the regular sippy cups are. the lid and straw goes on the cup suction tight so they don't spill. put the straw in after you put the lid on or the liquid inside comes shooting out of the straw LOL

I use to use the cups with straws by playtex, then started using the other cups by playtex called coolsters. They look like travel mugs but are still spill proof which is great! They also come in different colours and don't look babyish so they don't feel like it's for babies.
