What's up with all of these bitter Red Sox fans and Mets haters?
First, to those Red Sox fans who keep whining.
It is true, you guys trash on every player that leaves your team. You did it with Nomar Garciaparra, Johnny Damon, Manny Ramirez, and now Jason Bay. Not even satisfied with the fact you have one of best pitchers in the league, John Lackey. I'm hearing things like "Jason Bay sucks" and "Jason Bay plays terrible defense, and strikes out a lot" were you saying that when he put those 36 HR's, with 119 RBI, single handedly carry the Red Sox offense, easily the MVP of the team. Peter Gammons who is a Red Sox fan himself, said Jason Bay "Would rather play in Beirut, than go to the Mets" guess Beirut is located somewhere in Queens.
To the Mets haters, why? Sure, the Mets have been underachievers, but to say "The Mets aren't going anywhere" is ridiculous. I recall before the season started Sports Illustrated picked us to win the World Series. We have all stars in most of our positions, we have one the best starting and closing pitchers in baseball, so why so much hate? All were trying to do is improve our ball club. We needed a LF with pop, and Omar addressed that need. We were dead last in homers hit last season, so it was imperative that we got someone. Still more work to be done, but things are looking better, can't deny that.
What?, is it true that you're a Yankee fan?
Also, how many clubs have a solid rotation 1-5, the Phillies went the World Series with Pedro Martinez, so my point exactly.
True, but that Yankee team had it what i took to win a championship, and they honestly should have won that series.

Just the usual here in the Baseball section Ab lol. Seriously though if the Sox fans want to blame anyone they should blame their Management who decided they didn't want to pursue him anymore until they decided to try again at the last minute but vy that point it was too late. Mets now got him & kudos to them. While i won't say they won't go anywhere i do think they need to get some Pitching b/c i don't think the Pitching they have now(except Santana) will be able to deliver but hey you just never know that's what makes Baseball fun.
Happy New Year to you.

It's inevitable that when a star player leaves a team, it's fans are going to try to belittle him. And most of those Mets haters are probably angry Red Sox fans. Also I hate to burst your bubble, but despite getting Bay, it would be a long shot if the Mets somehow got to the World Series. The pitching staff has only one consistent starter, Johan Santana, and the rest of the lineup is really lackluster. No one knows how Beltran, Delgado, and Reyes will come back from injury. And even with all of those players healthy and Bay the rest of the Mets lineup is unimpressive. One bright spot is that the Mets will have a winning record and maybe make a run for the wildcard if everything goes in their favor. Getting Bay, while not the best move the Mets could have made, is certainly an improvement, and shows that management is at least trying to put together a good team on the field, instead of just sitting back and hoping that the returning players will guide the Mets back to the playoffs.

Let's break down your question because the circumstances that a player leaves Boston matter.
1. Nomar was synonymous with the Red Sox for 8 years. I was sorry to see him go. Having Orlando Cabrera helping the Red Sox win the 2004 World Series more than made up for missing Nomar.
2. Manny stopped playing and became an active clubhouse cancer. (Do New Yorkers not remember Stephon Marbury?)
3. Johnny Damon signed with the Yankees after being one of the most popular players in recent Red Sox history. That was rightly viewed in New England as a betrayal only slightly below that of Benedict Arnold. And Arnold couldn't throw either.
4. Jason Bay was great for a year and a half. I liked him and will be sorry to see him go. I hope he thrives with the Mets. I am relieved that he is not in the AL where he can hurt the Red Sox.
5. I can't speak for Peter Gammons, although I may speak like Peter Gammons, but maybe the Mets were the only team to give Bay the prospect of a 5 year contract. Gammons probably meant that Citi Field is not a hitter's park. I am so going to avoid the Beirut references or about 50 people from R&S will report me.
I hope that clears the air.

right now I don't think Jason Bay solves the mets problems. They suffered a lot of injuries this past season and they need to acquire more pitching. Honestly I've never liked Jason Bay (I'm not a BoSox fan) b/c his defense is sketchy. People aren't saying that just to put him down, the numbers don't lie.
Second the SF Giants have an excellent starting rotation. Lincecum/Zito (eh)/Cain/Sanchez and when we had Penny.
One great starter can't win all the games and one great closer can't win all the games. You need good starting pitching and a good bullpen which for example the Giants also have. And I'm not being biased because I'm a Giants fan, but because it's true. Something like 3rd in bullpen ERA, 2nd in starting ERA.
Oh by the way good luck with Bengie Molina...
Oh and justin I guess other teams got "lucky" 9 times against the so-called champs...I swear yankee fans are seriously annoying its ridiculous how big of heads they have. How do you guys all fit in the stadium with those huge egos?

Red Sox fan:
Nomar was a brilliant trade that won a World Series! I wished no ill will to Nomar, and many of the others on the list you mentioned. (Damon excluded, signing with NYY just isn't right!) Manny was a great hitter but needed to go, again no ill will but his time had come and gone! Bay is a little bit of a mystery. He got off to great start in 2009, clutch HR's. Then Bay had a TERRIBLE June and July batting below 200. His stats to end the season weren't that great .268? Remember Bay had a great start and 72 RBI in the 1st half mostly Apr/May so 119 is a bit skewed. He struggled big time in clutch moments. I'm not sad to see him go. Saying Bay is bad defender, I don't understand. Perhaps years of watching Manny in LF ruin my perspective a bit!
As for the Mets: Face facts the 2009 Mets were (pick a very bad word) Horrible, Terrible, star-crossed, whatever just say not very good! They are old!!! and getting older. I admit that they were leading the league in injuries and that was a large part of the problem. One must also consider the impact of recent Mets' Gm decisions... some very questionable calls. Good luck to Bay and the Mets, stay healthy and pray the Phillies implode!

Haters will be haters :P
I was kinda surprised about the lack of disappointment with Bay leaving from Sox fans. Although Cameron is the better defensive guy (who might move over to replace him) Bay did a great job while he was with the Sox. I also heard a lot of people saying that it was a bad deal for the Mets, bad deal for Jason Bay etc etc. Ehh I dunno about how the Mets will do next season. I still think there are some problems here and there as a team overall. Bay is nice but he (not to mention Johan) alone won't solve everything.
best of luck next season though you never know for sure

Sadly, it has come down to money. Sports takes a back seat. Those teams that have a lot of moolah, i.e. Red Sox, Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, can make the big wheel and deal and usually land up with the premiere players. They need to establish a spending cap, much like the NFL, and achieve more parity across the league. I'm done with baseball because of that. NFL and NHL are much more exciting.

Emphasis on the we have "ONE of the best starting" pitchers," which is probably Johan Santana that you are referring to.
What about the other four? Pelfrey, Maine, Perez (I dont know the last one) have had good seasons before but aren't consistent. So the Mets decided to sign some other questionable pitchers this offseason (Escobar ,Dickey) and it's a gamble. I don't see how you are going to win the World Series with that. The money spent on Bay could have been spent could have been used towards an offer to Lackey although I doubt Lackey would even want to go to the Mets.
As for the haters who immediately bash a team for signing a player that they wanted, it's pretty typical and happens with all teams.

Let me address the Mets situation first. Yes, this is essentially an all star lineup but there has to be cohesion before there can be success. In the past three seasons I have yet to see this. Manuel and Omar are not the answers either. True, there have been a great number of injuries but there has been a history of teams with major injuries that have endured. Until the Mets can prove that they can stand up to the Phillies, your statement of underachievers is valid. We shall see!
As far as the Red Sox fans are concerned, what we are reading here in Y/A is nothing more than children expressing there disappointment in managements moves during the off season. It also continues to show me that most who post comments know very little about the game of baseball. They really should do more research before making such foolish statements.
What you've reported is true. Peter Gammons blew the call. I did as well when it came to Jason Bay. I really thought he would either stay in Boston or head for Yankee Stadium. I guess that makes me as smart as Peter Gammons. lol
I try to avoid answers questions that are not in depth. Usually the children stay away from questions like that because they don't know enough about the game to answer it intelligently. I feel you pain.

As an prolonged time crimson Sox fan, i could say no. particular, the Mets beat them in the 1986 series, yet we keep in mind Buckner greater desirable than hating the Mets. crimson Sox followers hate the Yankees for many motives. the super reason with the aid of the years has been the opposition of comparable branch communities. between the super motives for the opposition is now generational, via fact that in 1918 the crimson Sox have been between the main significant's powerhouses, having gained 5 worldwide series as much as that component. while the crimson Sox proprietor fell on stressful cases, he tore aside his championship team, inclusive of sending Babe Ruth and quite a few different different stable gamers to the Yankees. Many crimson Sox followers sense that the Yankees' history could have been the crimson Sox very own, via fact that Babe Ruth became theirs first. Babe Ruth became so mad at being traded, that he supposedly began the curse by utilising throwing his piano in a pond outdoors Boston, asserting that the crimson Sox does not win a call until eventually the piano became got here upon. This grew to become authentic until eventually 2004 of direction. with the aid of the years, the Yankees' successes added to the detest. And the Yankees looked as though it may excitement in including to it, such via fact the playoff game in 1978 the place Bucky Dent hit a game winning homestead run after probably feigning harm previously in the sport. The crimson Sox have been likely continually in the back of the Yankees even with many super communities, inclusive of one in the Forties that could desire to container all 9 positions with .3 hundred hitters. lower back, the crimson Sox' dramatic win over the Yankees in 2004 and then winning the worldwide series in a sweep positioned an end to the curse, and with a bit of luck has led to a dominant Boston baseball team. So, no, until eventually the crimson Sox initiate assembly the Mets in each worldwide series. enjoying the Yankees season after season, many cases in video games that could settle on the end results of the branch, makes for a brilliant opposition.

Nomar and Manny were tanking games to get traded, and Damon went to the Yankees... its legit to hate them from a Red Sox fan's stand point... Red Sox fans didn't trash Orlando Cabrerra, or Coca Crisp, or Alex Gonazales or Kevin Millar or Dave Roberts, or Derick Lowe when they left... and Red Sox fans that aren't me are crying in their beers right now b/c they love Bay... I never liked him but that's a different issue... the point here is that they wanted Bay to come back, they didn't want him to go and they aren't trashing him. They are confused b/c they thought he wanted to play in Boston b/c he said it all the time and he went to NY fr 5 million more than the Red Sox offered him...
The Mets aren't going anywhere, they don't have any pitching besides Santana and K Rod. Its not ridiculous to say that b/c its obvious to pretty much everyone. The Met's GM is a complete moron and that organization is falling fast because of him. Its not that we hate the Mets its that its just pretty clear to people that that isn't a place you would want to go to win a World Series b/c they have proven to be a team that collapses and has poor management and club house fights and epic failures and bloated contracts and under achieving players and a nosy media and fans that bring cowbells to the stadium.
Edit: Wow all these haters on this post... its like the basketball section or something. Jason Bay got an offer from the Red Sox that the Red Sox didn't expect him to take b/c they set their price and that was it, just like they did fr Damon, and Lowell (who actually took it) and Pedro... They were only wrong about one of those guys...Initially I think you are correct, Bay will be good for one more year (just like Pedro was ) and he will make the team better, but long term this isn't a good deal b/c he will age and the Mets can't stick him at DH and the defense will be a concern... Mets errors kept how many innings alive this year?... and that's great for pitchers in the pitch count era how?... additionally alot of criticism should go Omar's way for passing on Lackey who could have been gotten fr the same amount they gave to Bay... especially since they will they have Martinez to play CF and they could move Beltran over to LF and could have given the money that went to Bay to a pitcher and a cheep patch OF.
Lets look at some pitching numbers from last year: Mets were 2nd to Washington in BB, 12th in the NL in ERA and 11th in Quality Starts... The Mets need pitching, its clear as day...
IMO if I was Mets GM, I would have gone with overpaying fr a pitcher than overpaying for Jason Bay given that I already had one of the best OF prospects in the game and I already had Beltran and Frenchy and my starting pitching is very, very short... Escobar is a start, but its a gamble, you need something to be sure of... and since the team was all hurt last year, and you know what yr minor leaguers can do, this isn't a gamble a Gm can bank on. (And Wagner is taking his Mets scouting reports to Atl with him too.)
