Cherokee is a better all around daily driver vehicle. It has more leg and head room, has three times the storage capacity, has a little more city friendly smooth suspension. The Wrangler is the far superior off-road vehicle. It has more ground clearance, shorter wheel base, tougher axles, and pre-set winch and KC light positions. Both use the exact same engine and transmissions, so neither of those are an issue. I like both, but it comes down to what are you using it for. If you want a go anywhere off-road monster (but with very rough ride on pavement and little to no cornering capability) get the Wrangler. If you want a fairly good city SUV that is also capable of mild 4-wheeling (but cant go near as many places as the wrangler) get the Cherokee.

My loved ones has each from 2001 and I more often than not use the wrangler. I could say that for relief the cherokee is the larger option as good as for wearing baggage or some thing else. The cherokee remains to be first-rate for iciness as good. The wrangler is only a a laugh auto, your prime up and you'll quite upload the off street apparatus to it nevertheless its a lot smaller and is not as quality for lengthy commute or lengthy using everyday. I could say when you plan on using or visiting plenty get the cherokee however when you dont force very more commonly besides probably for a skii commute each and every iciness or so the jeep is first-rate a laugh

Where do you live? In the US, production of the Cherokee ended in 2001, so I guess you are talking used. Overseas (and maybe Canada too) the vehicle that we in the 'states know as a Liberty is badged as Cherokee, so you may be talking about new vehicles.

Either is a very good, solid vehicle, and "better" is a relative term that's mostly dependent on what you want to do with the truck. If it's mostly on-road driving, with occasional "dirtroading" or light offroading, then you might be more interested in the Cherokee/Liberty for it's comfort and better ride. If you're going to get more into offroading, then you'll likely be more interested in the Wrangler, with it's taller stance and "tougher" suspension. Of course, if open air driving in important to you then the only choice is the Wrangler. Whether you get the hardtop, softtop, or dual top options, you'll be able to easily remove the top and go about open air

Edit: by the way, the US Cherokee is a tough, capable offroad vehicle too. There's some pictures of them in action here:

    Source(s): I currently own a 1990 Wrangler dual top, a 2007 Wrangler 4-door dual top, and a 2009 Wrangler 2-door soft top. I have owned a 1998 Wrangler dual top and a 1995 Cherokee

I agree with Dodgedude for the most part. The axles are actually the same (depending on what year Wrangler we are talking about)... I will compare to the TJ Wrangler (97-06). They both use the same axles, Dana 30 front and Dana 35 rear. There were better axle options (rear) available on both but these are the common ones. They shared engine, trans, and transfer cases as well.

I like the Wrangler more, but I drive a Cherokee. The Cherokee is a decent wheeler stock, not on the same level as a Wrangler, but better than most other stock SUVs. As mentioned the Cherokee has more room for passengers and gear/equipment/groceries... but it lacks the removable top and doors. That is part of the joy/experience of driving a Wrangler. The Wrangler (TJ) really doesn't ride any worse than the Cherokee due to its coil spring suspension front and rear...but the shorter wheelbase may make a difference in how it rides. The standard TJ has a 93.4" wheelbase while the Cherokee has a 101.4" wheelbase... the TJ Unlimited has a 103.4" wheelbase.

The aftermarket (lift, lights, bumper, etc) is large for either vehicle so finding stuff to add on wont be a problem.
