Have the sea lions gone from San Francisco’s pier 39 because they know a big earthquake is about to hit?
It’s kind of a spiritual question, isn’t it?

The go where the food source is.. they have been a total nuisance to the fisherman
and the people with shops on the pier.
They are aggressive and obnoxious, the tourists don't have a clue, the enviro-wackos
always make a mountain out of a mole hill maybe
the sea lions swam to Monterrey to visit their relatives for the holidays.
The big earthquake hit San Diego area today 5.9, today.

It's possible; animals are more aware of the subtle cues in nature that suggest that something is wrong. Elephants in the area of the December '04 tsunami could feel the vibrations in the ground that resulted from the deep-ocean earthquake, and fled inland (some taking their hapless and confused riders with them) away from the impending wave.

Not spiritual at all. But perhaps they sensed the changes in the earth, and so went down to San Deigo to see what was going to shake the most-- there was an earthquake there today, fairly substantial.

We had a 5.8 today down south. Mexico area, but my brother felt it in San Diego. Who knows, animals act a bit different when earthquakes are coming.

I guess you didn't pay attention to the WHOLE report. They went out for FOOD and will be back, as they always do.

It is and that's a possibility I hadn't thought about. However, animals do sense things like that.
