Apple ibook montior problem?

Ok I recently have had an issue with my monitor. It is completely black not lit up just black. The actual system turns on and there is the mac start up noise but no picture. I took it to an apple store and they said that I dropped it when I know I didn't. They said it would cost 250-300 dollars to replace. Does anyone else know what happened?

Update:

i would but you see im a student so.. basically i have no money i live off ramen noodles and juice :D

I had the exact same problem with my old Apple iBook however this was years ago. It's just a general error and as they're getting pretty old now I would upgrade to a Macbook for sure. Look online for a computer repair shop, they should know all about this kinda thing.

    Best of luck!
