A stray dog came up to our house with the female symbol (circle with plus sign) on it's belly,What is it mean?

It's a symbol we use to mark the dog as altered (spayed or neutered), and probably means she has an owner somewhere. I would call around to your local vet offices and ask which ones do tattoo marking and try and see if they can locate her owner.

When they desex animals here they put a green tattoo in their ear that is a circle with a line through it.

it sounds like someone has tattooed this dog as a means of ID and could be looking for it. We dont have tattoos as ID here that I know of so I'm not sure how to track the owners, but explain to your children that someone loves the dog very much and will be worried about it. Post found ads and get it scanned for a microchip. If you find the owners ask if your children can come see the dog sometimes.

If you don't find any owners after a good search then you are free to keep the dog.

It was probably just something some mean person put there as a joke. You no ant-Woman. Sexist. That's what the slash if for. If your children are getting attached, really attached, and you don't already have too many pets, you could take it to the vet and get it checked out, get it's needed shots and have a new family member and save a life, & create a smile for your kids =) Dogs are wonderful life companions. ^^

it sounds to me like it might be a spayed female,our dog has been spayed,and she has an "S" tatooed on her belly,they do that now a day so that people dont try to re-spay dogs,you could call your local vets and let them know,and see what happens. (have them check for a microchip,you might also look on craigslist and in news papers in the lost and found sections,to see if someone lost her) if you try to find its owner,and dont,then you can keep it.

maybe it belonged to a irresponsible person who put it on the dog to tell it apart from the male dogs... i would seriously take it to the vet if you want to keep it. Good luck i hope that there is nothing wrong with this dog,

some people mark their dogs like that so they wont loose them ask around the neighbor hood, ifound a dashund like that i asked around but nobody claimed it so i gave it to my grandma shee had is for several years now and the mark is getting blurry
