Can I add baby cereal to baby food to thicken?

I picked this up from another question. My daughter loves baby cereal which I make quite thick, but isn't fond of baby food. I think this is because it's too thin. Is it safe to add rice cereal flakes to commercial baby food to thicken it? I can't imagine it not being safe, but just want to be sure.

Yes, its totally safe! As a matter of fact, my son has always been a good eater, I can't remember ever NOT mixing his baby food with rice cereal. It is way too thin for him without it.

Yes and it fills them up more so they don't cry as much..I used cereal the rice kind and put juice in it and cut a bigger hole in the nipple of the bottle and let her have that..

Totally safe.... just make sure you feed with a spoon... do not put it in a bottle and feed. My little girl loves brown rice and fruit or squash.. all yummy to her

Yes, sometimes I put some in the fruit purees to thicken them.

Source(s): I make all baby foods but as a mere mortal I've made mistakes and some ended up too runny!

Yes it is safe to do that. I did that with my son at night so he would sleep longer because it would keep him full. lots of people do it don't worry it won't hurt the baby.
