Many people remain uneducated about the candidates, the issues, the bills, etc. They don't take the time to do their own research and they rely heavily on the media (MSNBC, CNN, FOX, etc) to tell them how it is. I read the bills that come before congress and then write and call my senators and tell them what I think about the bill.

I'll throw out a clip fromawhile back from a local news team in the midwest. People were getting stimulus checks and when interviewed about where the money was coming from they replied, "Obama." When asked where Obama had got the money the people replied, "From the government's stash." This is an example of how people remain uneducated about not only politics, but about the basic functions of the government. That "stash" is of course tax payer money that is borrowed from tomorrow.

So how do we solve these problems? Number one, we should get rid of most of the people in congress. Not just democrats or republicans, but both sides. Our system does not have to rely on a two party system and probably shouldn't. Look where it has gotten us. We have corrupt politicians that do nothing for their constituents, while good honest people that choose not to align themselves with those corrupt bodies are left out in the cold. Unable to get the media coverage that they need, some even not allowed at public debates.

So ask yourself this: How would I do things differently if I were elected into office (local, city, state, federal). If more people became educated and then asked themselves these questions it would be easier for us to see where politicians have done us wrong and it would be easier for us to hold them accountable at the polls.

Secondly we begin educating the people around us. Really educating, not indoctrinating, or brain washing, or ranting about it. We read the bills, then we talk to people about it. Take the Cap and Trade bill that the house passed for example. Many people didn't read it, they just said that we needed this for our environment. In that same bill, it gives the department of commerce the right to determine which tv, refrigerator, washer dryer, hot water heater, windows, insulation, etc you need to buy for your home or for your rental properties. It also gives the government the right to determine when you need to replace these items. If you can't afford to purchase them at the time when the government says that you should, then you will be forced to take out a loan to the government. But if you ask somebody about the cap and trade bill, many will tell you that it will stop big "evil corporations" from producing pollution. It does not.

Talk to people, read the bills, and elect people that have a track record of listening to the people that they work for and not listening to the party that pays for their campaign!

very plenty so... The gas shortages, end of Vietnam, Watergate... Then the 80s, with Regan's scandals, Iran Contra Scandal, the low value expenses and private loan disaster, Regan's spouse changing the president's time table around his horoscope, collectively as having psychics in the white homestead.... human beings tend to forget approximately, and easily seem to concentration at present drama.

Eight years ago, a terrorist bomber’s attempt to blow up a transatlantic airliner was thwarted by a group of passengers, an incident that revealed some gaping holes in airline security just a few months after the attacks of Sept. 11. But it was six days before President George W. Bush, then on vacation, made any public remarks about the so-called shoe bomber, Richard Reid, and there were virtually no complaints from the press or any opposition Democrats that his response was sluggish or inadequate.

That stands in sharp contrast to the withering criticism President Barack Obama has received from Republicans and some in the press for his reaction to Friday’s incident on a Northwest Airlines flight heading for Detroit.

The truth of the matter is that real substance is hard. It takes intellectual work to produce it and it takes real concentration to understand it. It's easier for Republicans to label Democrats as Socialists and for Democrats to label Republicans as racists.

If the right could produce another Milton Friedman or William F. Buckley Jr. and the left could produce another John K. Galbraith or Noam Chomsky I would be very happy.

Because we have those who believe in America as a republic as it was founded under the constitution, and others who think that socialism is an experiment that hasn't already been tried and subsequently failed.

Unfortunately, until the worldview of the entitled liberals change, it can't be solved.

Some wish to uphold the Constitution, personal freedoms, and a republican form of government (of the people, by the people, and for the people)

Some believe the USA is evil, the Constitution is flawed and needs to be repealed, and that the only answer is for Government to take control of your life, and regulate every aspect of it. The removal of all freedom, independence and right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

    The two are incompatible.

Because with the fall of the fairness doctrine the media became an institution that needs to make a profit.

The only way they can is to sell controversy.

do you really think old boring news would sell as well?

People will always disagree about things, and that's fine. All that matters, is that their disagreements be expressed in a polite, and respectful manner.

Because it's a 2 party system with hopefully a mainstream 3rd party ready to join in soon.

It's only been that way in the last 10 years. Ask Karl Rove about it.
