what turned you off away from christianity?
I was raised in the christian family, my mom is christian, my dad was christian, My cousins were christian, I read about christians, I was affected by christians.
what turned me off was my realization about this mass mentality that christians share...
Christianity is extremely egocentric,is based on fear.
Christianity breeds arrogance, a chosen-people mentality
breeds authoritarianism.
Christianity seems to promote mediocrity and willful ignorance; for instance, creationism vs. evolution; pro-choice vs. pro-life; Jesus is magic...
Christianity is cruel ( I am a homosexual & honestly it wasnt healthy hearing about what an abomination I was and evil I was just because Im in the minority of people who are attracted emotionally to the same sex)
Christianity has an exceedingly narrow, legalistic view of morality ,encourages acceptance of real evils while focusing on imaginary evils ( again me as a teen it was encouraged by christians to degrade and tease me based on being a homosexual, they taught me to hate myself)
models hierarchical, authoritarian organization.
The Bible is riddled with contradictions, and christians tend to be people have a shared group mentality of people that I would never dream of being friends with (I have grown up with them)
& the meaning of christianity always changes every century but people tend to be so closed minded that they dont realize it .
because people were raised in a time when homosexuality was unnacceptable in the same way that lots of people were once raised to believe that enslaving others was fine.
I dont beleive it is reliable guide to God, the bible & its attitudes it promotes just seems so evil & dishonest to me, I dont think an omnipotent all knowing God could ever support the way its christians behave or the way it describes him to behave jealously in the bible, its repulsive. Its certaintly not my God. But the same thing can be said for islam.
The bible is the great satan & hes got everyone Fooled.

i agree with everything you posted .all that is true.but what really turned me away was all the things you have to take for granted.there is no proof of any of it.you have to take for granted that there is a heaven and a hell and a god and a satan and the angels and a jesus and all the "miracles" he performed.i mean has anyone ever been to heaven or hell?how do we know those places exist?we dont .we have to take the word of humans and a 5000 year old book.has anyone ever seen god or satan? no.again we have to take the word of man and a book.has anyone ever seen an angel? no.again its all about the book and people.and another thing about religion.they always make thier savior better than everyday people and have the ability to things no other human can do.for instance,we cannot walk on water, but jesus can.we cannot give sight to the blind but jesus can.we cannot bring back the dead but jesus can. jesus lives forever but we die and on and on and on............
there is actually a term for that. its called anthropomorphism.
i really think its all just a bunch of made up stories to give early primitive humans some hope or something to look forward to.
just my humble opinion

I am not sure any one could have said it any better. Most Christians will not agree with you but you are 100% correct.
As for why I turned away from Christianity..
I prayed often and when I prayed it was always for enlightenment. I would ask for guidance on what is the right path.
I never asked for anything for myself except to help lead me in the right direction.
I started looking at religions and realized that God did not have anything to do with religion it was man. Religion is full of faults and causes wars, and oppression.
Sometimes man has even used religion to excuse torture.
God led me to realize that he created man and man created religion not for Gods benefit but to benefit man.

1. The concept of Hell. No one deserves to suffer eternally for sins committed in this lifetime.
2. The idea that God creates an immortal spirit for each little baby that is born. I think that something that is eternal can have no beginning.
3. The bias against homosexuals. It was always obvious to me that homosexuality wasn't a choice.

For me it was in war , I seen & done things which made me believe there can not be a God.I was a very bitter nasty atheist for a very long time.
However I am becoming a Christian again because I am beginning to understand the bible something that religion sadly lacks.

I see what ur saying. But what i dont like is that people go into Christianity and decide that its not for them. But they dont explore any of the other religions. And i mean the nonbiased views of the religions. Oh and the nerve of Christiants kept me in Hinduism.

The extreme believers creep me out with all the
talk of hellfire and saviors and all that ghost talk.
I was lucky to have free-thinking parents though
who thought me to question everything from a young age.

I would like to address this reply directly to the person asking the question.
Not as a proper reply, but just in general.
The people that you talk about were WRONG to torment you for your sexuality.
"Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone."
-Jesus
(and my favorite Bible verse)
You also DO NOT have to go to an organized Church to be a Christian.
As a Christian myself, I do not even like going to Church.
I find it difficult to pick out one I like.
That, and I also work like every Sunday.
(it happens to be a day that is a source of stable work hours)
Jesus has forgiven you....
Yeah, you probably do not want to hear that.
Ok... something better:
JESUS LOVES you as YOU ARE!
He just doesn't like that particular behavior.
He also dislikes people who KILL others.
Would you have nasty things to say to me if I killed someone you loved?
Sure you would! (not an actual threat mind you, just using it as an example)
But Jesus will still love me as a person.
Also, if I am saved through his loving grace, my SIN DEBT is COVERED!
Although, this is not an excuse to do whatever we want to do.
Living as God wants us to is a difficult task, no doubt!
I will own up to my sins on Judgement Day.
God has forgiven you. You have nothing to worry about.
The people who judged you, WILL ANSWER TO GOD when their time comes.
Do not worry, Jesus is a friend who is fair.
At least, that is the GOD I believe in.
P.S: You do not have to hate yourself, God would not want you too. Just be happy with who you are and know that you are saved by the blood of Christ.

Christianity is of love. What Jesus did on the Cross for our sins is the most selfless act of history. Sin cuts you off from God and Christians don't want people with sinners lifestyles, which I have with smoking cigarettes (I am in need of deliverance), to suffer eternal damnation and therefore say that sin is okay. You have to realize that it is the Truth and God loved us so much that He sent Jesus for us. Christians also aren't perfect people, and that is why Christ is so important, beacuse He is perfect: God who became flesh. Jesus did not come to condemn you, but to save you from your sins. Sin leads to death and Jesus saves people from their sins so that the author of life may grant you life. That is love.

I simply got to the point that I had to acknowledge that Christianity made no sense. Add to that the awful things done in the name of Christianity, and the level of sheer hypocrisy that I saw growing up as a Christian, and I reached the point that I'd had enough.
