Sleepwalking is a disorder that occurs when a person walks or does another activity while they are still asleep.

Parasomnias are a category of sleep disorders that involve abnormal and unnatural movements, behaviors, emotions, perceptions, and dreams that occur while falling asleep, sleeping, between sleep stages, or arousal from sleep. Most parasomnias are dissociated sleep states which are partial arousals during the transitions between wakefulness and NREM sleep, or wakefulness and REM sleep.

    Medical Term For Sleepwalking

Hi Michelle: While sleepwalking is real and possession is also real, they are NOT interchangeable with one another, although as another poster mentioned if somebody is possessed then that person could still walk around as the entity rather than him/herself. I used to sleepwalk when I was a boy. Since my youth was not a particularly pleasant time of my life, perhaps it was the stress that caused it; I don't know.

My one friend (as an adult) told me that he was over visiting his buddies one evenng and there were four brothers living in this house. The youngest comes walking into the room and the other three tell my friend NOT to look at the fourth one nor should my friend attempt to speak to him. Too late, my buddy looks up at the fourth one as the fourth one strolls around the room and gets eye contact with him, at which point he says to my friend rather aggressively "What the **** are you lookin' at?" Again the brothers tell my friend to turn away and be quiet, which he does. The fourth brother eventually leaves the room and returns to his own room. It was then that my buddy was told that the fourth brother is a sleepwalker and he does this routine on a semi-regular basis and that he never remembers any of these incidents once he wakes up the next day.

Finally I'll give you two TV shows that dealt with this subject. "Unsolved Mysteries" back when it was hosted by the late, great Robert Stack, had an episode dealing with the medical and emotional side of sleepwalking, as well as its possible causes. And on a lighter note, check out the very funny episode of "Gomer Pyle, USMC" where Gomer starts eating welsh rarebit and begins sleepwalking nightly and telling off Sergeant Carter every chance he gets.

His Utmost Excellency, the Emperor, has spoken.

Philosophies and opinions are just that. An opinion.

Scientific studies prove otherwise. Go here:

No I do not believe that anybody is possessed by an entity, but rather having a difficult time coping with life, they may of had a few dramatic experiences like their parents getting a divorce,a death of a parent or both;I would definitely say the sleepwalker had allot on its mind especially worry.I don't mean to offend you but I think that's a cruel thing to even suggest.Sleepwalkers are emotional disturb people brought on by traumatic situations, that could even be a seizure or form of epilepsy.

Well, you could be right. But my cousin sleep walks, and I've seen it first hand. Let's say it like this: Have you ever been so sleepy that you peed the bed? You knew you were doing it...but you couldn't stop it. Don't you think sleep walking could be like that? I've seen my cousin sleep walk...and when I wake her up she remembers doing it... So yeah. whatever. Mental illness isn't possession. So why would sleep walking be?

No, not in the slightest. There's absolutely no relation between them.

In the olden days, people who suffered from mental disorders such as bipolar disorder were thought to be possessed, but in reality it was unrelated.

Someone who is possessed "may" sleep walk, but it wouldn't be actual sleep walking. It would be a because of a second entity acting on the sleep walker. It would just appear to be the same.
