I keep getting a message about virtual memory being low!?

I was told that every time you do a virus check, logs are kept and thats what eats memory. If true. How do you clear the logs???

If what you suspect is true, you can go and clear out Event Viewer logs by going to

    Windows 7, Vista

Start > (right-click) Computer > Manage > (Expand) Event Viewer (under System Tools) > System Logs > (right-click) Security > Clear Log

    Windows XP

    Start > (right-click) My Computer > Manage > Event Viewer > (right-click) Security > Clear All Events

Now if you are starting to run low on Hard Drive space then that addresses another issue. We need to clean up your disk space.

    Win XP

Start > My Computer > (right-click) C: Local Disk > Properties > (and next to the pie chart) Disk Cleanup

right click my Computer and select properties/ advanced tab/ performance (setting) tab/ advanced /virtual memory (change) tab (at bottom)

click custom size and increase the amount make both the same (add 400 to the largest amount)

click set. job done will need a restart

Virtual memory is part of your hard drive that windows has set aside in case you haven't enough memory on your system

Thats absolutely not true. One thing that you have to understand, is the difference between memory and disk space. Memory or RAM, is different than you Hard Drive space (which is where the virus logs and all your other data is kept.) When windows tells you that the virtual memory is low, the usual problem is that you dont have enough RAM installed for you OS, or you have too many programs open, or are using programs that eat up your ram. If you use windows XP, you should at least have a 512 MB of Ram but 1Gig is reccommended. For Vista and Windows 7 i would say atleast 2GB. I had an old computer running XP with only 256MB of ram, and whenever i had iTunes and Mozilla Firefox open at the same time it would give me that message. So, 1. it has nothing to do with virus logs, or the junk you installed on your computer. 2. it probably has a lot to do with the available RAM, or how much of you RAM are the runnning programs taking up. Consider closing some background programs that take up a lot of memory, or buy more ram. You can check how much memory programs are using by going to the task manager Ctl Alt Del, selecting processes, and under the Memory tab is listed how many MB or ram each process is taking up. Usually web browsers take up the most, and of course computer games depending on how detailed their graphics is.

Of course if your Hard Drive is completely filled to the brim to the point that widows has a hard time writing to it, than you should clear up some stuff you dont need. Also a defragment will speed up your pc a lot.

It's because you've installed to many applications and also you temp folders are maxed to the point your Windows can't use the hard drive as memory because lack of space. DL and install CCleaner and clean system then DL and install Revo Uninstaller and sort programs by size then decide which large one's you can do without. You might also want to consider getting an external hard drive to put all of your files and you can also install programs onto the external and use if your main hard drive is tiny but not recommended because of speed. Last you should defragment the drive and run CCLeaner every day.

You could try to clean your PCs with Ccleaner

then pump up your virtual mem by going to:

    Desktop>>Right clicking on Computer>>Settings

    Go to the tab: Advanced

Then click the first Settings button which will open a new window

Click on the tab Advanced again

Under the heading: Virtual Memmory you can click the (only) button: "change"

If The first option is selected the change the Maximum amount to around 2280

If the second option is selected change it to the first option and give a minimum af 1140 and a maximum of 2280

    Click "OK"

    that should do it.

By the way, did you buy your PC in the age 0?

No, that's not all, you probably have a bunch of crap downloaded onto your computer. If you go into your control panel, and add/delete programs, go down the list and just delete the programs you never use. Your space will be cleared up in no time! And if you don't want to do that and really want to delete those logs, well, I don't know how to do that.

    Good luck!

It can be your graphics or RAM.

START > RUN > type DXDIAG

get your specs up on here.

    ------------------------------

Also, you will need to check if your registry is defragged. This is usually the most common problem for this alert you are getting.

    ---------------

    RICKROLL

You might not want to edit your virtual memory settings if you hardware can't cope with it.

You should at least have a 2GHz Processor with 2GB RAM.
