Question about a Tangelo tree?

A gardener told me that tangelo trees will "take a year off" - that is, not produce any fruit for one entire season. My tangelo appears to be doing exactly that, so I looked on line for more information about this and I can't find any mention of it. Has anyone else heard of this? Can you tell me where to find more information on line?

Update:

Actually, it's a very large well-established tree that produced a lot of fruit last year - and not one single fruit this year.

Tangelo varieties like Minneola (Honeybell) are alternate-year bearers. They produce a lot of fruit one year and very little the next, then back to lots of fruit. This is normal.

Do NOT keep your citrus "well-watered" as in a previous answer. Citrus likes to go dry between waterings.

I haven't seen that before, though if it was recently planted it might not yield this year due to shock. Keep it well watered, a slow trickle to swamp the area of the roots is best to soak deep down to it's roots.
