9 year old cat throwing up blood?

My 9 year old cat has been throwing up blood for about the past week. We didn't notice it until yesterday, but the cat has also dropped from around 12 pounds to 8 pounds in a very short amount of time, and is sleeping close to the entire day and looks tired all of the time. The cat has also not gone to the bathroom for nearly 48 hours, but is still eating like normal.

Any ideas what can cause this? We can't get a cat to the vet until Monday, but this sounds pretty serious. Other than this, the cat seems to have been perfectly healthy until now.

Update:

We didn't realize it was throwing up blood until today. We had been gone for the last week, so it may not have been that long.

Going to the vet is not an option until Monday. We only have one place near here we can go, and it's closed until then. They already said they wouldn't see him until then.

Update 2:

Rapid Fire, I'm asking what's wrong NOW so I have at least some chance to do something about it.

If you don't have anything to say that benefits me, kindly **** off.

Update 3:

Sunshine, we don't have an ER to go to. As I've said, we cannot go anywhere until Monday. Everything until then will have to be done by me.

Update 4:

The whole "Monday" thing isn't because WE can't, it's because no vet/ER place here (there's only one, anyway) is open until then.

Update 5:

PEOPLE, PLEASE READ.

I DO NOT HAVE A VET TO GO TO UNTIL MONDAY. I live in the middle of nowhere, and the only place I COULD go is NOT OPEN. It's not my fault. I've already tried to call the person repeatedly for an emergency visit, and they told me no.

I guess that since money doesn't matter, get the second opinion. But make sure that you take all the notes from your current vet with you...It is OK to get a second opinion, don't feel funny asking for a copy of the records, your cat is sick, and at 14 yrs old things can go down hill fast. Giving them the records lets them see what has been done and what the other doctors' conclusions were. If there are radiographs ask your vet for, so you can them to take along. It would be interesting to know what the injection was that was given, vit, steriod or antibiotic. Each points in a different direction for an answer. Good Luck with your baby

It could be cancer. Take your cat to the vet.

Matt, engage your brain! Do you honestly not see how ludicrous this question is? I'm not going to take the time to explain it all, but if you want this poor animal to live, he or she (odd how you never indicated which it is) needs to see a vet asap, whether it's a regular vet who's open right now, or an emergency vet. You've basically killed your cat unless you get him/her seen right away.

IT IS SERIOUS AND YOU SHOULD NOT BE WAITING UNTIL MONDAY..IF YOU REALLY CARE YOU WILL TAKE HER TO AN ER NOW!

So he/she has been throwing up blood for a WEEK? And you're just now considering a vet? Now it has gotten far enough to where it's not going to the bathroom and losing weight. Get to the emergency vet now. There's no reason for you to say that you can't bring it to the vet until Monday.

I'll be blunt with you---your cat has severe problems if there's blood coming up and that huge a weight loss in a couple of weeks. This cat needs to go to the emergency TODAY before she's too far gone to save.

What's the cause? Ingesting a foreign object that's impacted inside, toxic exposure, toxic ingestion, pancreatitis, diabetic condition, hyperthyroidism, kidney failure, the list goes on.

Your cat needs to be examined fast, a blood test taken to see what organs are showing an effect and what kind of effect they indicate. She's likely dehydrated which makes things worse. The blood is a huge danger sign. The sudden weight loss is just as dangerous.

When you first see signs, that usually means a cat has been ill for at least a week prior but was hiding it. So this has been going on longer than you think. Get to an emergency vet. It's THURSDAY, any vet can take an emergency appointment as a walk in.

sounds extremely serious I would be finding an emergency vet or call the after hours vet for advice until then at least. Too much for a quick diagnosis over the internet but not toileting for 2 days and blood is an extreme emergency!

Get that cat to an animal emergency room IMMEDIATELY. He could have gallstones or anything. He needs medical attention IMMEDIATELY. Get him to the animal emergency room ASAP.
