If you have an HDTV and a PS3 but no HDMI, is the picture still HD?

I'm using A/V jacks to connect the two. The PS3 is an HD source, and the TV is HD 1080p, but is the picture still hd if i use the red/yellow/white cords? or can only HDMI cables carry HD signals?

You need to use the Component A/V cables. That would be the Green, Blue, and Red (video) with Red/White (Audio) cables. That can do HD.

The Composite A/V cables, Yellow (video) with Red/White (audio) can only do SD.

The Component A/V cables might not do 1080p as far as I recall. But they can do 1080i and 720p. So they are most definitely still HD formats. The video quality is basically the same as HDMI (minus not being able to do 1080p). But its the audio quality of HDMI that can out shine Component HD. So it is worth going HDMI eventually if you can.

If you HDTV does not have Component inputs, and no HDMI, then it should likely have DVI (looks like a computer monitor input). You can buy HDMI to DVI cables (or adapter with HDMI cable). Then you can use that. But in that scenario the HDMI won't carry audio (like it normally does). So you'll still have to hook up audio separately.

nicely in case you presently are plugged into your television with an HDMI twine... then no. in basic terms ensure you have your ps3 set to to its optimal rez. you try this for the time of the device settings section. yet while your plugging your ps3 into your television with the little yellow, white, pink. plugs. then no you at the instant are not getting a hd photograph. im unsure if the ps3 got here with an hdmi cable yet while it did not then you definately could decide to pass out and purchase one. i've got been given mine a on the same time as back so i dont undergo in concepts. any electronics shop could desire to have it. like radio shack or perfect purchase, or wallmart.

Yellow + R/W is SD only.

For HD, use either component r/g/b or HDMI.

Not really... When I got my PS3 I used the component A/V. I would not recommend using them, because it made a buzzing sound, and it also caused green and purple horizontal transparent lines go up on the screen. It makes it less enjoyable. So if you do go and buy a new cable get an HDMI. They are FABULOUS!!

the best cord is the HDMI cord , the red yellow white cord you are using is like 30 year old technology. it is not as good , get your cheap butt to the store and get an HD cable
