What's the best flea killer medicine for cats?
My cat got fleas from my mom's dog, and I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of the fleas on him...Frontline, CapStar, and I've even given him a bath with flea shampoo...and he still has fleas, so I'm kinda running out of ideas. Any other options?

Monthly preventatives need to be given every month for 6 months after you see a flea to ensure that all fleas in your house have been killed. The pupa stage of the flea life cycle can last 6 months and is nearly impenetrable to medicines, sprays, and bombs.
Wait 2 days before and after applying a topical flea preventative before giving baths.
Frontline Plus kills adult fleas and eggs. In some places, fleas are becoming resistant to it. It worked well for my cat until an underlying condition caused her sebaceous glands to atrophy. Now her skin doesn't produce enough oil to spread the Frontline all over her body.
Capstar kills adult fleas in 20 minutes, but it does need to be used every day. It is generally used to give pets some relief from itching while the monthly meds are beginning to work.
Revolution is increasing in popularity. Unlike Frontline, which works through the oil layer of the skin, Revolution works through the blood stream. It kills adult fleas, ear mites, heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. My cat doesn't use this because she had a bad reaction to it, but only 1 in 700 cats will have that reaction. I gave her a bath and took her to the vet. She was fine in a couple of days, but 7 months later, she still has a bald spot.
Advantage is another monthly topical, but I don't know anything about that.
My cat is currently using Comfortis, which is a monthly pill labeled for dogs. We went to this because Frontline and Revolution were no longer an option for my cat and Capstar is too expensive to use all the time. My cat needs to be protected year-round.

I went through this nightmare earlier this year. Here's what worked for me. I had the yard professionally sprayed for fleas, I used Flea Stoppers in the house on the carpet (has to settle in for few days before vacuuming), bathed the dog with tea tree oil and Joy Detergent, and of course used the Frontline on both the dog and cat.
The trick was to time everything at once. Yes it worked. I keep frontline on them every 30 days. However, I almost killed my cat by putting flea powder on him. He ingested it and it almost did him in. Since then, I have found another product that I am going to try called Triple Sure. It is all natural for the pets and non-toxic to them and US! There have been some great testimonials about this product. I just have not had the money to try it. However, I have posted it on my website along with my cat, Supa's story. I suggest you read my Pet Page and get the free 5-part mini course in your e-mail also about pets. I hope this helps.

Advantage definately. You also need to get rid of the fleas in the carpet, on the furniture, on other animals and anywhere else they could be. I had a major flea problem last summer with my dog. As many times as I gave him a bath and no matter what I used they kept coming back. It drove me nuts.
The best advice I got was to put a dish of soapy water under a nightlight at night. The fleas jump from the carpet and furniture at the light and fall in the water. It really works. And keep bathing your cat and use Advantage to keep them away.

1 - Keep him away from you Mom's dog.
#2 - Frontline is good. BUT, the fleas may be in your rug and you may have to do a bomb to get rid of them.
Good luck with it.
