How do I unblock the HTTP port on my computer that my firewall is blocking?

I'm using a Dell PC and am running Windows XP

Update:

A few weeks ago I had a virus on my computer and in the process of getting rid of it my firewall settings must have been changed. I can't get Internet Explorer to connect and when I run a diagnostic I get a message saying that "Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer. Check the firewall settings for the HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and the FTP port (21)"

Now I have no idea how to do this and I would really like to be able to use IE again as many of my applications access the internet through it so a lot of stuff on my computer isn't working. How do I go about fixing this?

Thanks!

Update 2:

I tried what the first poster suggested and no luck. What else can I do?

There is one way you can fix it and that is to open up IE and go to Tools and then go to Internet Options and on to Connections tab and then click on LAN Settings and uncheck the box which says "Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections) Hit OK and then hit Apply and OK and restart your IE and see if that works?

    Did you try this?

errrr I do not feel you'll be able to - if the isp has blocked them then they're blocked are you able to choose option ports to make use of ? in case your firewall is obstructing them then open those ports to your firewall

For windows firewall (vista), unblocking ports is done by :

    1. open windows firewall

    2. Click on the exceptions tab

    3. On the bottom next to add program and properties, click on add port.

    4. Type the port number in (80 should get your internet working)

    5. For the radio buttons that say TCP and UDP, click TCP (for port 80 at least, not sure of the others)

    6. Hit OK.

    7. Cross your fingers because it seems like networking stuff never works.
