I am 13, what exactly would it take for me to be a model?

I'm 5' 5 1/4 and 13 years old (14 in February). I would really like to become a model. I am thin but i do have small curves. It wouldn't be bad for me to become a bit skinnier I'm guessing. I'm not exactly sure what modeling what modeling agencies are expecting in a girl my age either. I just would like to know what it would take for me to be a model, what my portfolio should look like and what my measurements should be. Thank you.

Local stores are a possible way to start, but landing a contract with a national or international agency is incredibly hard. Most models are around 5'10" tall, since clothes look better on long bodies. And the agencies look for particular features that are currently fashionable or people with unusual features that are still considered attractive. Most large agencies don't accept unsolicited photos, so if you mailed out headshots they'd probably wind up in the trash. But their people look through print ads (for department stores, catalogs, etc.) and sometimes find candidates that way. Fashion photographers also recommend models to agencies, since they work with unknown talent all the time. So it's almost a necessity to know someone with agency contact.

Be very cautious about a modeling career, since there are more fake agencies than real ones. Any agency that says you'll need to pay money up front to cover the cost of photos, promotional materials, screen tests, etc., is not a legitimate agency. A legitimate agent will never ask for money from you, since he'll make a living by taking a percentage of what you earn on a job he finds you.

If you're only 5'5 1/4, you're not tall enough to do high-profile runway work and those are generally the models you see in fashion magazines. But you could inquire at the headquarters of a local or regional department store to see how they hire models for newspaper ads and flyers. The standards applied to catalog and newspaper models aren't nearly as particular as those of agencies that supply international models. For those, you can be of average height and normal proportions.

I assume you mean runway/high fashion. No agency will sign you right now. You're too young and too short. Most agencies won't even look at a girl any shorter than 5'8. You'll have to wait until you reach that height and/or at least 14.

The first thing you have to do is get signed to an agency. A lot of agencies hold open calls or allow you to submit photos. Find one near you and do ONE of the two, not both. At open calls, there are probably 100's of other girls and maybe 5 will get callbacks. After that one might get signed or none will.

From there you go to different photographer to build a portfolio and comp card and all the cost will come out of YOUR pocket. In the first year of modeling, you do more spending than earning. Once your portfolio is built you go on go-sees to see different designers for their runway shows, ads, promotions, etc.

Very few models make it all the way to the top, but that doesn't mean you can't. Girls who are emotionally strong (because there will be a lot of "your too fat"), non-divaish and hard workers are the ones who get far.

Also, whatever you do, DO NOT ATTEND A MODELING SCHOOL OR DO PAGEANTS. That's the absolute worst thing you can do if you want to be a model. It lowers your chances of being signed because agencies have to un-teach what they taught and they don't have time for that.

well, what kind of modeling you wana do? runway? face model? sportswear?

yes, you need to be taller. model agencies dont care bout your puppy dog face, you need to be taller. and no, you cannot have curves unless maybe you wana be a sportswear model. you cannot jsut be an average face, brown hair brown eyes. you've gotta have something SPECIAL, unique. do you stand out? i cannot tell you what your measurements should be, because i don't know what you look like.

look for a local photographer to take a couple of shots for you. send them in to verified model agencies. do you live in a busy city? popular? then more model agencies shall be aorund.

but overall, please don't be a model. its not what everyone thinks. it does not give you confidence, it gives you ridiculous reasons to starve yourself. it's sad, its lonely, and you become a bug under a microscope.

but hey, if you have the body, confidence, and looks, go for it. you gotta keep trying. you will be turned down many many times before you will ever become a REAL model.

    good luck girl :)

    Commercial model?

    Run way model?

The minimum height requirement to model is 5'7, lets just pray you grow a little taller! Join a modeling/talent agency - they can be pricey about $300-500. Make sure you find one you can trust - there are many fake agency's out there! Most agency's will have a professional photographer to take photos of you. Hope this helped, message me if you have any other questions!

Unless you're rich and your parents are friend with a modeling agent, chances are you won't become a model. There are so many girls like you who have the same dream. It's a hard job to get, and you have a rare chance you'll be a model. Just focus on school for now.

Maybe you should do some research online... what other models had to do... I would hope that is not your only aspiration at 13 is to be a skinny model? Kind of shallow sounding.
