Why does my Oriental Shorthair cat vomit her food? Most importantly how do I get her to stop?
My cat has done this for years and it is usually after she eats and just whole pieces of food.(she doesn't chew her food.) I put little rubber balls in her food bowl to force her to slow down her eating. It seems that she is puking worse now and more often. (although like I said this has been going on really for years) I just feel bad for her and can't think that the acid going through her esophagus could be good for her. Not to mention that she is very vocal and it is HEARTBREAKING to hear! Our annual vet visit is coming up but have mentioned it before and they don't seem too concerned and just reccomend felilax which she doesn't really like. (nor is her vomit hairballs.) Just thought someone might have an idea.
So, I will try your suggestions again but I ave tried the Royal Cain Siamese brand food and she didn't seem to be able to chew it. I know that is the point that it is really big so she must take her time but it seemed really really difficult for her like she was going to break a tooth or something. Already tried the wet food and it makes her puke even more because there's no way to slow her down other than give her a tsp every 10 min which at certain times of the day are impossible. PLUS i didn't mention I have an overweight tabby and 2 dogs to try to separate during feeding times. Anyway thank you and i'll give it another try.

She is eating too much too fast - normally that would be with dry food that is not good, overloaded with carbs and starches they do not need and cannot digest. Switch to wet food, do yourself a massive favour.for her benefit.

Siamese and the orientals are known to binge and barf. The food puffs in their stomachs too fast and they end up nauseous and puking as a result. On the plus side, one cat food company makes a food specifically for oriental breeds (and other cats with the same problem) to stop this. I've used it and it does GREATLY reduce the amount of barfing. Royal Canin Siamese 38, it's $12 a bag, and the bag lasts a whole month for one cat so that comes down to $3 a week, affordable. It's high protein too, and a pretty good food, our diabetic was on it for a long time and his numbers were stable. I recommend it. Most pet supply stores carry it.

I agree with the girl above, if you have the time feed her small portions at a time so she's not gulping it all down. If your talking whole portions like a chunk of chicken you definitely should make them into tiny dime sized pieces and like a spoonful of the pieces at a time, it's too much food at once. You know how if you give a baby a whole cookie they'll choke because they jam into the mouth all at once? Maybe her intake just needs to be regulated, but I'm no expert i just have always had animals and no money for vets. Good luck.

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic breed, but there ARE low allergen breeds. Before you invest in a cat, your father needs to see an allergy specialist to determine if he is healthy enough to stand a cat and visit a cattery (you will almost definitley need to get a purebred) to see if the cats set off his allergies. I believe that ragdoll cats are considered low allergen, but i'm not sure.

She is probably just eating too fast. If you can give her her portions of food a little at a time that might help. give her a little bit of food, let her eat it, wait a couple minutes and give her more. Other than that I don't know what it could be besides that or hairballs.
Source(s): actually I've never tried it before but i guess if you have the time it might be worth it.
