I don't know about Rock Band, but my cousin told me Guitar Hero (the newer ones include drums and mic as well as guitar, like Rock Band) was better. I got it for Christmas (Guitar Hero: World Tour), and I like it.
I went over a friend's house, and she had Band Hero. I was playing it, and it was awful to me. The songs were REALLY hard, the instruments weren't quite synched... it was very hard and although I knew a lot of the songs, I'd go with one that's easier to play.
So I recommend Guitar Hero (World Tour or 5 are the ones with all 3 instruments, I believe)

I think guitar hero is best for the wii, tho both games are pretty similar
