Will the New York Mets win the wild card in 2010?

I think they can now win the wild card with the addition of Jason Bay. Also, if they wait it out they'll probably get Bengie Molina and they might get Joel Pinero. I dont think we need pitching because our rotation isn't so much worse than the phillies. I mean, Santana and Halladay can have similar stats, if Cole Hamels doesnt rebound and Pelfrey does, they can have similar stats, and if John Maine stays Healthy, he can match up with Joe Blanton, and if J.A. Happ comes back to earth then Niese or if Perez gets back to his 07 form, he and Happ can have similiar number. So, I think the mets have a good chance to win the wildcard if everyone stays healthy. Your thoughts. Thanks in Advance! Also can someone tell me whats so bad about the mets farm system. I mean we have have good young pitchers and we have good hitters.

Nope. There going to win the division (I'm forever hopeful). But really, throw out last season because of all the injuries. they were basically fielding a AAA team at some points. If the core can stay healthy and they pick up a legitimate #2 starter, then they can be very competitive. Word on the street is they came to an agreement with the Cubs for Zambrano but they haven't convinced him to waive his no trade clause. I would like to see them work a deal for Roy Oswalt. They talked to the Astros about him last year before their season fell apart. Screw Pinero. He wants 5 years.

No. They have too many problems that need fixing. For instance, they have only one good pitcher, Johan Santana. The rest of the rotation is inconsistent and not strong enough to compete for the wild card. Also, their offense is weak as well. The first 3 or 4 hitters are good, but the rest of the lineup is really weak and can't hold up against other teams like the Rockies or the Giants. So no I don't think that the Mets will win the wildcard this year. Maybe in a few years if they get pitching and some of their young stars get better, this year I don't see it happening.

Signing Jason Bay didn't fix all of their problems, there are many others that need to be addressed, first and foremost, they need to rid themselves of Minaya and Manuel, and the sooner the better.

They have no starting pitching that they can count on except for Santana, and the bullpen is shaky at the best. For the Mets to be in the playoffs, too many things have to go fall into place right, and that rarely happens all at the same time.

Start at the top, and let the new GM bring in some new players and maybe they can be in postseason by 2012.

No, that spot would be taken by the Cincinnati Reds, aka The powerful team of youth. If we can stay healthy,we will own. Jay Bruce, Joey Votto, BP, Cueto, Bailey, Wood, Dickerson, Stubbs, Rolen, Hernandez, beastly bullpen and nice closer in Coco. You guys are on a downward spiral and have no farm system. You have a few nice farm players but not alot. Thats why ur teams havent been in the Minor League playoffs as much as mine. GO REDSS!!!

The world is not based on "what if". The Mets problems go much deeper that player personnel. They have field management problems has well as GM problems. Those issues need to be addressed as much as getting the right players.

The Mets have a "defeatist" attitude and that has become poison to themselves as well as most of their fans. The Giants and Dodgers are better than the Mets. If it comes down to the playoffs I would not look for the Mets to be anywhere near the race. With a 70-92 record last season, they would do well just to reach .500 as their improvement.

A lot depends on Santana and if they get another solid starter. If they do then they have a shot especially if all their hitters stay healthy. They should move the wall in if they have a brain though to help Wright, Beltran, Bay and their other Hr hitters.

santana is good but halladay is the type of pitcher that will win you world series hes just too good under pressure and lasts 9 whole innings.

Only if the wild card can be won with about 85 wins.

I count 6 'if's in that paragraph and even then you just get to COULD win the WILD CARD.

Sorry, that's not exactly great odds.
