When upgrading my iPhone, can I keep my current phone?
I know I'll have to renew my contract for 2 years. But do I have to give them my current phone in order to get the new one? or can I keep it? ( I have the original iPhone, and I'm getting the iPhone 3GS with AT&T)

You keep the phone. With AT&T (and the other major carriers) you always keep the old phone when you upgrade.

You get to keep the phone. The first generation iPhone wasn't subsidized by AT&T, so you use your own money to pay for the phone, so you get to keep it. When I upgraded to the 3GS, I didn't have to give them my old phone back.
I don't think you have to give your phone back when you upgrade. Without that SIM card, you can't make any calls.
