Are running balls for hamsters bad?

I got a female hamster last month and bought her a running ball.

The web sights that I checked are all negative about the ball as

they are dangerous for hamsters. (ex: The ball rolled by hamsters

might hit wall and die)

But my active hamster seems to enjoy rolling it, and is learning

how to break the ball before the obects.

What do you think?

No, my hamster went down 9 steps. It wasn't funny when it happened but he was fine, although I wouldn't try it, make sure you watch your hamster carefully if you have stairs.

No way! Hamsters love the balls they also don't mind bashing into walls or they would squeak, squeal and cry. Balls keep hamsters fit and healthy as they originally came from Syria where they ran all night in the wild. Hamsters really do need their balls and wheels without them they would become fat and their legs may not work properly. Some balls have air slits that are dangerous and the hamster could get its foot trapped the same with wheels you need to be careful and look out for this other than that hamster balls are fine :)

    No!

Balls are perfectly fine for hamsters, they love them. Its how they get their exercise, and they should be out for 10 - 15 minutes a day to keep healthy.

Ball rolling into walls is just their way of exploring. My gerbil whacks the walls pretty hard and nothing happens, he's fine.

It is guinea pigs who shouldn't be in balls or wheels, but hamsters are absolutely OK.

    Hope I helped!

well my hamsters i had was always running into the wall and it never died even when they was going as fast as they can .. but yh that was when they was babies i don't think they are dangerous the only bad thing about them is they break easily and you gotta make sure the lid is on properly ... in the end when they got too big for their ball i made some sort of an event thing for them With empty toilet rolls boxes and stuff .. i let mine roam free basically , but make sure you make some sort of a small fence or something they love venturing as you already know.

I have had 3 hamsters and have always put them into their running balls and they haven't died. It should be safe. My hamster that I have now hits the walls all the time and she is still alive.

If I have the ball open on the sofa whilst my hamster is crawling all over me then she goes into the ball and stays there until I close it and put her on the floor.

She hits walls sometimes, its inevitable but it does not hurt her, she just changes angle and sets off again!

Never put her in it for more than 15 minutes.

I think they are superb for hamsters because it allows them to spend time outside of their cage without hands all over them, stopping from going where they want.

I dont think there bad for hamsters, And I dont see how they would kills hamsters.

If the Hamster is in A Open Area then she would probably be ok ;)

Cage wheels are probably much safer. I think the running balls are more for human amusement then anything.

    Think: Stairs and doorways

Your question is very funny. Honestly, I do not like my balls to be running off from me at all ... LOL.

But as much as they seem to enjoy it, long term, it will hurt them. So you can use it often but not at all times.
