I need help with my laptop; blue screen that won't allow me to run it in safe mode. Anyone?
Okay; I have an Inspiron Mini laptop that I got for my birthday last September. It runs Windows XP.
While I was at school one of my pain in the *** friends came over and used it. Now I turn it on and it goes to the black 'We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start sucessfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.'
I try to start normally, in safe mode, w/networking and w/command prompt and even when I try to restore it to a previous point at which it worked I get the same message on the blue screen after the Windows starts to load;
'A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
If this is the first time...restart.'
And at the bottom it says;
'Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0x86565590, 0xC000009C, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)'
I know its the new year and my Nortons has expired, but I can't do much of anything even if I got a new Nortons package when it won't let me actually start the computer. I'm not hopeful that I can fix it without professional help but thats just not possible with our current money situation. If there's anyone who might be able to help please let me know.
Okay, now I've gotten it to run ,but it's extremely slow; is this a reaction to having to reinstall the cd or is there still a problem? If so, is there anyway to help it run faster?

It's good to see that you got it working. In response to your additional details question, yes there is a way. When you reinstalled it, you still need to reinstall the drivers for your hardware. They should be on the repair DVD or else available on the Dell support website. Once you have these installed, do a reboot, your computer should be running at full speed again.
