Impreza cold weather hassle.?

I've got a 2004 Impreza WRX. The temperature dropped to -12C last night, and half an hour trying to get into it, without setting the alarm off, it won't start...well it does, but then it switches off.

Is this the immobiliser?

Update:

Sorry, I forgot to say that it has a Clifford alarm and immobiliser.

Pretty sure they did not put immobilizers in the WRX's till they switched to drive by wire in 05. Not completely sure but pretty sure. These cars do have some starting issues in extreme cold when it's been parked outside.
