Will Pacquiao's legacy be hurt because the fight with Mayweather wouldn't push through? Why?

It's official that the much-anticipated welterweight bout between Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao and American Floyd Mayweather Jr. won't push through after promoters failed to reach an agreement ( http://ph.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20100107/tsp-ouksp-u... ).

The bout would have been the richest in boxing history and would have guaranteed each fighter at least USD25 million, not including sales from pay-per-view that can bring their earnings to USD40 million each.

A sports blog mentioned that Floyd Mayweather's blood-test request is ridiculous, but Manny Pacquiao's legacy will be hurt if he walks away from the fight ( http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news;_ylt=Atn1P3Jeunqd... ). Do you think Pacquiao's legacy as the best pound-for-pound boxer will be hurt because the fight with Mayweather will not push through? Share your thoughts now.

What Manny Pacquiao is most revered to doesn't tantamount the unfortunate and unbinding legacy of Mayweather Jr. What makes Pacquiao being considered an all-time great was not that he's one of the most exciting fighter since the golden era of the welterweight division. Pacquiao's greatness, in my opinion, will not only be remembered for this trivial matter made by a mischievous scandalmonger itself, Floyd Sr.

To be honest, I was not a fan of Pacquiao. The first time I saw him fight was his fight against Marco Antonio Barrera, their first fight. I told to myself that this guy has so many flaws that I could list them in 5 pages in a bond paper, back to back. He was everything I didn't hope for, he wasn't simply a man who's my censure because he was humble, but he I besotted him for his fighting style. I even said to my friends, "That guy [Manny Pacquiao] is just going to be in boxing transiently." In the Morales fight, I was right, but only in the first fight.

Then, there I was, cogitating about how good Pacquiao really is and how his legacy will be remember in an amaranthine state.

His legacy will not even budge after this ironic matter.

In the end, my statement of Pacquiao will be, "He had many flaws, he was beatable, he was not that good, he was not that powerful, he was not that unique, he was not my type of a boxer with his barely plausible style, yet he was complete, he was great, he was Manny Pacquiao."

It's a pity that the question as to who is truly the greatest may not be answered. For me, Pacquiao's legacy will be hurt. Thus, Bob Arum must exert all the efforts to push through with the fight. I still believe that the fight between Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao will be held, maybe not on March 2010 but on some other date. Drumming up publicity is one of the tools to increase advertisements, thus, further increase or raise the already fat paychecks. If this happens, the bout would be the largest and richest in the decade. It's pure hard work and personal discipline. Buying Mayweather's ridiculous requirement will give Pacquiao some kind of psychological submission and this will affect his performance inside the ring. Truth of the matter is; Floyd fears Pacquiao too much that he conceived this random testing so that Pacquiao will not take the bait thereby creating a self notion that Manny doesn't want to engage. Today, Floyd know pretty well that he is denying himself the truth...few more years to come, and he'll start believing his lies.

This will certainly left a scar on Pacquiao's reputation as a clean fighter. Pacquiao should give in to this simple request because it will taint uncertainties from his past winnings. I think Pacquiao and Mayweather should prove to all boxing afficionados that they are both honest in their line of work. Mayweather propagandist may be able to used this as proof that Pacquiao doesnt deserved to be called the number 1 Pound for Pound boxer. I am a Pacquiao fan from day 1 up to now but, I cant understand why such a very stupid request specially for a clean player be an issue to call the fight off. Pacquiao must give everybody the chance to watch this fight if he really loves entertaining people thru boxing. That is if the drug testing is the real issue! BUT, if it is all about money matters... thats a different story. Pacquiao can decide for his own (Team) good.I'm not a big Paquiao fan but he has proven to be a GREAT fighter. IF Mayweather did happen to beat him, that would be a VERY devastating blow to the Philippines and probably cause riots all over the country where Paquiao is basically worshipped. The boxing god defeated...what a shock!! I wish they would fight though...it would be very interesting to see the results. Mayweather needs to have his mouth shut for a while anyway. Go ahead Pacman....fight Mayweather. Show the world once again that pound for pound, you ARE the Best!
