Should I buy an XM radio or HD radio?

I have received a gift card for Best Buy an I was actually thinking of buying some type of HD or XM radio. But I have no idea which on to buy or which one is the best buy. I heard that you had to pay for XM stations. And if I did have to then why doesn't everyone just use HD radio?

Im looking for a device to use in my car and at home.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

HD radio is very similar to regular radio. The big difference is that is supposed to be clearer. Satellite radio is uncensored, & has a great variety of stations. Yes you have to pay for it. Personally I really like satellite radio. I have 3 subscriptions, & will never go back...

HD Radio is terrestrial radio, Sirius XM Radio is satellite. HD signal is 1% of the total analog signal (i.e. 100,000 watts (analog) - 1000 watts (digital)) and may be problematic to listen to while driving. I have both and usually enjoy listening to HD Radio at home, and (Sirius) XM Radio in the car. More choices on satellite radio (even with the consolidation of channels) for $12.95 (plus tax and copyright fees).

HD is much like regular radio, available locally. It has no monthly fees bu is usually only available in larger markets. See hdradio.com for a list of stations

XM/Sirius is going to cost about 14 a month plus an activation fee.
