How to spot in your turns...?
I have mostly my basic technique down and the only thing I need help with is my spotting.
I know I'm doing it wrong because I get dizzy but I don't know how to fix it.
What is the trick to spotting in turns???

The key is to practice it slowly for awhile. Slow your turns down until you get the hang of it. Look in the direction you are going. Keep your eyes on a spot while turning. Your body should be turning but your head will be stuck on the same spot. Once you get to where you can't keep turning, whip your head around and look at the spot again. It's easiest when there is something on the wall too look at. Most studios have a picture or something on the wall that is used for spotting. At my studio we have a little apple. Something that will catch the eye is best. So when you whip your head around, it will catch your eye and you'll know where to look. If your studio doesn't have something like this you should talk to your instructor too see if this is something that you could get. Tell her that your struggling with spotting and that this will help. Good luck! Happy Dancing!

It's easy!
Just find a spot on a wall in front of you, maybe where there is a mark or something there. When turning, keep your eyes fixed on that spot, and only when you can't keep your eyes there any more, whip your head around - simples!

I find it very helpful to have a small but very outstanding (light or a colored piece of clothing) point. it helps with the accuracy, so you can spot the exact point.
Also, another thing I've been told off a million times doing: looking slightly up/down mid-turn. It completely ruins the point in spotting.
Hope it helps

pick a certain spot preferably at eye level, and make sure its still and no one's in the way. start turning and leave your head looking at that spot for as long as you can. be careful not to damage your neck. as you can't look at it any longer then as quick as you can whip your head round and start again. practise spotting more than your turns, as you cannot do a good pirouette without spotting. practise doing slowly to start off with, and more gradually. the more you practise the better you will be. practise this every day and your pirouettes will soon be perfect!

Easy....find something on the wall to spot (at my studio we have fairies hanging that's what I spot) and look at that till you can't then turn your head and look right back at it
