Regarding air safety on international flights: How much power does the TSA have outside the US?
There is talk about how the would be terrorist got through Amsterdam Airport security, and now the Obama administration is cracking down. But I have never heard, does the TSA or any other American agency have the authority to do searches on passengers coming to the US. Is it all done by that country's agencies?
Do they work together?
Do agencies from any other countries work with US authorities on flights to other countries, Israel for example.
Thank you, Pooh Bear, that was my question, can the TSA operate in other countries, not when they get to the US, if they come from somewhere with bombs it is too late in the US.

Once the passengers are on US soil, they can definitely be searched - that is part of the job of the customs' department, although they're usually looking for different types of things like fresh food (fruit, vegetables), plants, undeclared items (like jewelry), large amounts of cash, etc.
The TSA does not operate on foreign soil, if that's what you're asking. There is no TSA checkpoint in European airports. We do give out guidelines for what passengers headed into the US must be screened for, but that's about it.
The equivalent of the TSA in other countries do cooperate with the US (for the most part.) If there is someone on the US Do Not Fly List, and he tries to fly into the US, he will be prevented from boarding the plane.
The latest incident was the result of a combination of failures. British intelligence already knew about the guy and told US intelligence about him. Had the terrorist been flying out from a British airport, he would have been stopped. But as it turns out he came in from Amsterdam (in Holland). US intelligence failed to put the guy on the Do Not Fly list, so he went through Amsterdam security and was allowed on board the plane.
Amsterdam's airport is vowing to add addition security measures to their security checkpoints, including bomb sniffing dogs to screen passengers and their carry-on luggage. Bomb sniffing dogs are already used world wide to screen checked luggage for possible explosives or other contraband like drugs.

The TSA has no authority in foreign countries except for any authority that the foreign country wishes to give the TSA. The TSA only operates in the United STates just like the FBI, They have no power in any other country. I suspect this will change in the future.

hi can not u discover any physician to make a certificates that he won't be able to fly? If u get a certificates from a physician, u gets lower back ur money because it particularly is the only reason an airline can refund a nonrefundable fee ticket. In worst case, u can get a minimum of the airport taxes (ca 3 hundred-350USD according to pers) if u are actually not in a position to reschedule ur tickets. wish it ought to help u Br

Well yes, it was the British authorities that gave the US the information about the bomber on the plane to Detroit. One could rephrase your question and ask, why bother if the US take no action!!
