I'm working in Canada (BC) at the moment with a working holiday visa.?

At the end of April I'll go back home. Can I ask for a tax refund? If yes where?

thanks

What kind of refund? By April 30, you will have to file a tax return for the income you earned in 2009. For that, depending on your income and a bunch of other factors, you might get a refund of taxes overpaid.

For your 2010 income, you'll have to do the same process next year, and again, might get a refund (you should, working only a partial year).

If you mean some other type of tax (sales tax for instance) the answer is no, you cannot get a refund.

Before you go home, pick up a Canadian tax form at the post office (available in Feb. and good to use if you were resident in Canada for all of 2009) or the Canada Revenue Agency on Pender Street downtown or King George Hwy in Surrey, for all other tax forms. Also, give your employer your address back home so that they can forward your T4 slip to you.

Once you receive your T4 slip, which companies must mail by the last day of February, complete your tax form and mail it back to Canada. It will take at least 3 months for you to receive your refund, if you are due one.

I was wondering that too, is it better to be a non-resident or resident for tax purposes? if you made less than 15k for 2009 do you get all the income tax back? thanks!!!
