McAfee Not Installing?

I've tried the McAfee website for help but they are useless.

I just bought McAfee Total Protection software. I downloaded the exe. file to my computer. The installation process came up, asked for my email and password, then asked me for a typical or custom download, I selected typical and nothing. McAfee just clicks out, no matter what I do. I've deleted the file and redownloaded it. I've rebooted my comp, deleted all anti virus software I have and still nothing. I don't know what to do. I've just spent 40 bucks on a piece of crap.

Sorry for not being clear, I'm just frustrated.

I have Windows XP, media center. I believe the comp is from 2006.

For a browser I used firefox

I meant I *use firefox.

I just downloaded McAfee Total Protection from their website so I assume its the most recent one.

Update 3:

Uninstall what? McAfee won't even install at all.

    I would get the Mcafee uninstall tool and do a uninstalling using it. I would run it twice, restarting my computer both times. Then I would try and reinstall again. Making sure that you don't have any protection turn on. Like Windows defender or Spybot. Also Make sure you are installing it with Administrator rights.

    Important missing component to your question. What OS are you using? What web browser are you using? Which version of McAfee Total Protection?

    If you have 2009 and you're trying to install on Windows 7, that may be your problem

    first check if you have any other antivirus protection preinstalled or not.

    if you have then uninstalled & run ccleaner & wise registry cleaner for cleanup the cache & registry.

    then restart the computer >install mcafee

    there is a product key on your installation cd.

    when it asks you that product key enter it.

    you must have internet connection to activate that key

    then it will ask you to give the e-mail address.

    give your id & activate it.

    did you just delete the file or icon? uou have to UNINSTALL
