If I dye my hair, will my roots still be the same colour as my natural hair?

I've heard that if I dye my hair, my roots will grow in a slightly variated version of my natural hair. I naturally have a mix of red, brown, and blonde hair, just in case my hair colour effects this. Also, a reason why it won't change the colour of my hair-to-come would be appreciated, thanks.

Your roots will grow back as they've always grown your entire life.

What you do to the hair that's already grown out of your head doesn't affect the hair that has yet to emerge; your hair can't tell whether it's being dyed, cut, burned, tied up, etc.

So, dyeing your hair will not affect new growth.

The only reason some people claim that it does is either:

    1) Before dyeing their hair, they were naturally light blonde. After a few months or years or dyeing the hair darker, the hair naturally began to darken overtime (as it does with most blondes) and so they blamed the dye

    2) They simply forgot what their naturally growth looked like, colour-wise.

    3) They don't realize that their new growth is likely darker because of the lack of sun exposure. With most hair colours, especially lighter ones, the sun does affect how dark and light the colour is. In the winter, or when I spend my time indoors, my hair is at times 2 shades darker, and in the sunnier months, my hair can become much more lightened.

I have naturally blonde hair with platinum roots. I used to dye my hair: brown, black, then auburn. Every time my new growth came in, it was platinum blonde. Not darker. After I let my hair grow out and stopped dyeing it, my hair had naturally darkened slightly, while my roots remain platinum blonde.

    So, basically, don't worry.

The roots will grow in your natural color. Your have to touch it up in a few weeks.

Whatever your natural hair color is your roots will grow in that color, there is no way to dye the hair that hasnt grown yet :)

Youll just have to get touchups

It won't change your natural haircolor at all, it may look different as it grows out, but that's just because of the way it looks with the artificial color and you aren't used to seeing it up against something else.
