Calculate the acceleration of the cart (it is a pulley-cart system) mass of cart = 4.0kg
mass of weight = 2.0 kg
(a) no friction is acting on the cart
(b) a frictional resistance of magnitude 2.0N is acting on cart
I know the answer in the back of the book but I would like to know how to solve this problem. Thank you for all answers!

I take it that the cart is not on an incline and that the weight is hanging over the edge of a table and can fall without anything impeding its fall.
F = m*g
F = 2*9.81 N
F = 19.62 N
This is the force causing the motion.
The mass doing the moving is 2kg + 4 kg
m = 6 kg.
F = 19.62 N
m = 6 kg
a = F/m
a = 19.62/6
a = 3.27 m/s^2
A frictional force always acts against the Force causing the motion.
19.62 - 2.0 = 6 kg * a
17.62 = 6 a
a = 2.93 m/s^2

I had physics in 9th grade and we found out the comparable component. once you're taking physics for a 2d 3 hundred and sixty 5 days usually they take somewhat from final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and build on it, like moving from one unit to the different. they'll probable stray removed from optics next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days for you.
